Thought the very same when I 1st watched it & again todayOh god no! SO scary because it could happen! And I tell you, I wouldn't want to survive the blast and 'live' in a post nuke world that's for sure. Be better to get fried straight away methinks!

Yeah, it was and still is powerful stuff.
At the time it first came out, TV stations in the USA & Canada had to post a public warning before they could show it.
I read a book by Alex Scarecrow I think his name called, Last Light, modern times, starts in new York on a normal Monday morning & in the space of only a few days, the world's oil supplies have been severed & at a horrifying pace things begin to unravel everywhere, I couldnt put it down, even though it upset me, then read the follow up called, After LightYeah, and I remember the US one 'The Day After' being so timid. This was something else altogether. Gives me a chill every time I think about it. Those kids grunting, because there was no education!! Back to the Stone Age in a matter of moments!
