British farming standards are way higher than in the US, so whatever you buy over here, the cows producing it wont have been kept in those conditions.

May be true for now, but the Tories seem intent on lowering standards for everything so who knows what's to come.

Just look at the rotten pork story from a couple of weeks ago.

Burned alive? Probably died of toxic smoke inhalation. Preferable to a bolt through the brain that doesn’t stun as it should, so the animals are flayed alive.
Still happens on slaughterhouses where the throats aren’t slit.

Don't, I saw this 1st hand as a teenager. Truly shocking to witness it. Again why I stopped eating meat 35 years ago. Not a fad as my family said, I was shocked to my core.

A lot of american beef is just raise on concrete in pens, its shocking and thats before you get into the growth hormones they pump into their beef.

Coming to a store near you if/when we get our trade deal with the USA.

Maybe everyone who wants to eat meat should go and visit an abbatoir to witness stuff like this.

Once you've been through it, you get a 'pass card' which is a license that you need to show whenever you purchase meat.

It won't happen now of course, but maybe in decades to come.

Maybe, maybe not, it depends on where the fire started relative to the animals, how much ventiliation there was etc.
None of that's really the point though, the animals are being kept in cramped and dangerous conditions. None of that is prefereable to the way the way these places should be operating

Are the animals being kept in these conditions or were they just in there for milking? I presume they are out grazing for the majority of the time. I've been on dairy farms in the UK and I know the cows are outside the majority of the time and only brought in for milking. This fire was in a much bigger facility than any I've seen here so I don't know whether the process is the same.

They're dairy cattle, not beef cattle. Are you knocking milk, cheese, butter and yoghurt on the head?

To be honest I am not vegan but I'd what I can. Milk, butter, yoghurt I eat alternatives.

Just reading about an explosion in Texas which killed 18,000 cows and in the article it says between 2018 and 2021, nearly 3 million farm animals died in fire related incidents, with 1.76m chickens dying in that time period.

Now I know these facilities are huge but that is a lot of animals that have suffered a terrible death.
