My local council is Stockton-on-Tees, in the relevant bands.

Has anyone had the rebate yet?

I am on a direct debit and I can’t find any confirmation on the website.

It would come in handy for my season ticket renewal

My wife tells me that you have to pay by dd or you don't get the rebate. The rebate is done directly to your bank account but she doesn't know when.

Most councils I work with are waiting on both their software suppliers to make the necessary adjustments to their system to allow the payments to be made and for the first payment of council tax to be made by Direct Debit so that they can confirm that the bank account being paid back to is valid. Payments should start landing end of April / start of May in that case.

For those who don't pay by Direct Debit, they can still claim the £150 rebate but they will have to make an application to the council and provide bank details, which the council need to validate one way or another, and then they will be paid the money. All of this needs to be done by September 30th. Alternatively you can ask for it to be applied directly to your council tax account.

I'm in the process of buying a house. I'm hoping for system failures and no rebate until August.

I pay by DD and still not received. I'm pretty sure I read it will be rolled out over a few weeks and not straight away.

I wouldn't overly worry if you pay by DD. They have your bank details so 'should' go in pretty quickly. I have read a few people may have issues of you don't pay by DD or if you rent and council tax is part of the rent etc. Althiugh it's clearly wrote down what to do in either case.

I read something about needing the first payment of this year to go out so they can confirm your DD details. Although I've been using that account for 15 years so not sure why.

In the main it's to make sure that you're still paying council tax and liable at 23:59 on 1st April, which is the guidance. The council want to make sure you're still paying in before they pay out as trying to claw this back will be a nightmare for them.

The odd thing with this rebate, and I don't agree with this, but... We live down south and our house was just over 400k yet we are in band d, I think so will get the rebate.

It isn't very well targeted. I am sure there are lots of reasonably well of people getting this payment when those payments should be distributed amongst the people who need it.

You can still get it if you dont pay by DD, you just need to contact them with bank details for them to make the payment. If you have a DD they just automatically refund it to that account

We had a letter saying it would be paid back into our bank account by the end of April. This is Rotherham Council... obviously!
