Barcelona sell another 24.5% of Barca Studios

£85m to some production company. They really are selling their soul for a quick buck. Are they too big to die?

If I understand this right, it is this effectively selling off future TV earnings? Along with the deferring of player wages, they are surely setting themselves up for a much bigger and longer problem than the one they face, as their income will be drastically reduced for years, and they'll have to pay the current plays in the future along with any players they have then. Seems utter madness.

I simply do not understand the Spanish football "structure". I can't understand how the other teams allow Real and Barca to tell them what to do! TV rights is the obvious example. The two mega clubs will turn it into a slightly richer version of the SPL. And if Barca should fail, and I think it is a very real possibility (unlike RM) will there be any opposition worthy of the name domestically? I suspect that the Euro Super League is their "get out of jail" card. I believe they are gambling on that happening in the next five years.

It’s wild what Barcelona are doing. What on earth is going on with that recruitment this season, I haven’t read an article that’s explained it all thoroughly but it’s just insane.

They’re dead broke, got rid of Messi and are (still) negotiating pay cuts with half their players, Pique apparently has offered to play for free this season.

You understand that they’d try and bring in say one or two high quality frees if they make space, they’re a massive club.

What on earth are they playing at signing Lewandowski for 50m, then a bunch of players that they don’t need like Kessie and Raphina for another 100m?

They’ve got the best academy in football and finished 2nd last season. What are they playing at?

It’s insane the name Barcelona is a big enough attraction to sway players to come so why they choose to miss manage us a joke . They put the future of the club at risk , fans should be worried and be demanding better decisions at the top .

We might think there’s passion in English football and that we have devoted fans but no one ever fought a war and died for the right to stand in old Trafford, white hart lane, Highbury etc.

It’s simply impossible as English people got us to even begin to comprehend what Barcelona fc means to the people.

M’es in club

Isn’t a PR gimmick line.

The presidents always like these big flagship signings to try and boost their image and ego. ultimately it's what happens on the pitch though. They shot themselves in the foot with the Messi saga, the amount of income they lost with him going was huge. They'll be ok going forward, but I think they will have a tough time in a few years. RM will always be fine with the backhanded deals with the King.

I’d love to know how they get players to agree with these deals, owing de jong 17m and pique is supposedly playing for free? Who would agree to this?

It does go some way to explaining De Jong’s digging in of his heels, it may not be his love of Barcelona rather they might be getting him to write off some of their deferred wages to him in a move

I’d be terrified if I was a Barca fan.

Mortgaging the next 25 years of TV money to pay for a 37 year old Lewandowski and Kessie now.

It’s great that you can earn 700m with a fire sale of future income / assets, but you can’t do that every season, you can only do it once.

That’s serious, dangerous mismanagement.

Players who want to play for Barca I guess. Like Mogga et al in 1986. They did it for free over the the summer.
That’s a totally different situation though, would mogga have agreed to not get paid so we could pay for new signings? I highly doubt it.

One of the biggest issues they’ll have in future is Real Madrid will be banking 100% of their TV and merchandising revenue, while Barcelona will be banking well below 100% of theirs. They might keep pace with Madrid now but at what cost to their future.

It’s good to see La Liga standing up to them. You’d never see it here. They’ve been investigating Manchester City for three years but seem too scared to follow through on it.

One of the things with Barcelona is that they didn’t even *need* to do this. They have a core of excellent young players in place and could’ve built around them. Aubameyang AND Lewandowski AND Dembele? Why? Just greed and arrogance.

And publicly pressuring players to take pay cuts or leave the club completely is reprehensible IMO.
