After a three-year hiatus, Run For All are delighted to announce the return of one of the region’s most loved running events, the Ali Brownlee 5K.

The event is part of an extended weekend of running which will also include the return of the Middlesbrough Fun Run and the hugely popular Middlesbrough 10K.

The weekend is set to see people of all ages and abilities return to the town’s streets in a carnival celebration of running, fundraising and Northern pride.

Run For All, in partnership with Middlesbrough Council and Everyone Active, will kick off all the action on the evening of Friday, September 2, with the Ali Brownlee 5K taking place at 6.30pm. Those aged 11 years plus are welcome to take part, providing a great way for both adults and youngsters to join in on the action.

Honouring the memory of popular broadcaster Ali Brownlee, who for over 30 years commentated on his beloved Middlesbrough FC, the event is expected to generate a huge boost of deserving local and national charities, while also providing a great opportunity for those perhaps looking to challenge themselves, chase a PB or simply take part for fun.

Encompassing a new route for 2022 and with a start and finish in Centre Square, the route will still incorporate the iconic Middlesbrough FC Riverside Stadium, whilst offering entrants a new challenge in the town.

Sunday, September 4 will see the return of both the Middlesbrough Fun Run and Middlesbrough 10K.

Both events will start and finish in Centre Square, with the Fun Run open to anyone aged three years and upwards and offering a perfect opportunity for families and friends to stay active and healthy.

The Ali Brownlee 5K and Middlesbrough 10K official partner charities include Middlesbrough & Stockton Mind, Daisy Chain, Leo’s, South Cleveland Heart Fund, South Tees Hospitals Charity, The Teesside Family Foundation, Our Hospitals Charity and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Entries are now open. Sign up and check the routes at:

I love running etc and will be doing the middlesbrough 10k (if I get over a foot injury), but I can never understand why people pay for a 5k when parkrun is free every Saturday morning?

I liked it when the 5k finished in the Riverside, that was worth paying for. Running around the outside, less so.

£28 for a 10k is steep, buts that’s Run4All I guess. Good luck to everyone doing it though, especially if it’s for a good cause.
