On balance, another blow for Sunak.

When it comes to the boats crossing the channel.
Let’s remind ourselves, this problem has only really started to properly develop since freedom of movement ended and the land borders tightened significantly closing down those safer routes of illegal uk entry.

That said, I am hoping upon hope that the French government (specifically Macron) have been taking the money from the Tories for policing the beaches BUT, with not all their full focus.(because they privately despise the Tories)

If the French want the Uk people back on board with the eu and persuade the Uk public to start a ‘love in’ with labour - knowing a labour government will move closer to the EU, once labour get elected the French ought to be busting a gut to stop the boats for labour…
Strategically, long term it is a very good approach by the French for the uk people to be endeared by labour and the EU 👍🤷‍♂️🙏🏻

Stop the boats is a diversion tactic and not much more than a stupid slogan just like Get Brexit Done.

Brexit isn’t done and never will with the Tories in control of policy.

People desperately crossing the channel has happened my entire lifetime. It hasn’t suddenly become an issue.

This is exactly what it is. The boat crossings are in her constituency and no doubt she feels let down by her party over the issue. I’m more surprised that Labour have accepted her.
Tough call for starmer with literally minutes to make it before PMQs. Given she is stepping down at the next election I reckon he’s thought, why not, it gives Sunak and the ruwanda plan a kicking versus tolerating the media hauling up all the distasteful comments about labour and it’s policies from immigration to Brexit and a few other things to boot.
She’s a bit bat shyte crazy the lassie….

The defection isn’t a sign that Labour are shifting hard right, it was purely to cause Sunak embarrassment. She was slagging off the Rwanda policy. A Tory MP defecting due to the Rwanda policy is gold for Labour.

No one will be talking about this next week and she’ll be gone in a few months BUT it heaps pressure on Sunak. It’s all about showing how unsuitable and useless Sunak is.

Starmer was offered a political mallet, had a think, and said yes. Then a couple of minutes before PMQ’s hit Sunak over the head with it.
The effect can be gauged the way the right wing press started to divert to blame Starmer.
Ok, so she’s a pretty rancid version of her ilk…but she served a purpose, just stick her in a cupboard now. So the immediate ‘pearl clutching’ by some purists is a bit, well purist.
The choice at the coming election is still the same.

Just wondering where you get your info?
This suggests its a modern phenomenon (at scale) as per the OPs comments

Nothing statistically significant. Rather stuff I remember. Small boat crossings have been happening for years.

It's an attention seeking "last hurrah", no doubt she will now pop up frequently on Loose Woman and in all sorts of lurid magazines and on barely watched TV Channels!
