Djiksteel moving on at the end of the season ?

It's probably time, just as it was with Bola last season.

He's done 5 years here, not bad for a player who looked like he might have been shipped out halfway through his first season.

Really good player at times under Warnock and then Wilder in that triangle with Crooks and Jones.

Expect him to be snapped up by another Championship club.

I've always thought Dijksteel has the perfect set of skills to be a destructive midfield player.

Decent tackle/pace. At least reasonable positioning - his occasional lapse would be less of an issue.

Can move with the ball and play the simple pass.

Not quite fast enough/creative enough to be a flying wing back/full back - not defensively good enough/big enough to play centre back (though his best run for us was right side of a back three).

Its ovous to see ayling is playing for a contract also trys to get in the good books of the supporters trouble is lots of times you see once they get a contract form dips

I said to my friend at the start of the season that Djiksteel needs to nail down the RB spot this season or move on, for me he has better attributes than both Smith & Ayling, but he lacks concentration in games, he needs a run of 20-30 games just to get that out of him, and I don’t think has ever managed to do it, seems to pick up niggly muscle injuries, for me it’s time to move on, but I do think he could do really well at champo level.

I wouldn’t sign Ayling, he’s been steady enough but he looks to me like he’s lost a bit of pace, opposition players seem to easily to get half a yard on him in the box to get crosses in, he just doesn’t seem to be able to match up over 5 yards anymore, which as a full back is a major issue. Smiths coming back from a major injury, and I think the same will be true of him, just looses that half yard in 5 and can’t match up to block crosses. 2 x new RB’s for me in the summer, harsh on Smith but I fear he won’t be up to top end champo level, if that’s where we want to be

I'd keep Smith over Ayling, as I think we should be signing a new long term first choice right back in the summer.

Smith's under contract and he's coming back from a serious injury so would understand being back-up.

Ayling left Leeds because he wants to play.
Who knows what condition smith will be in and when he will be fit. It’s a tough one as he’s not really done anything wrong, but serious injury and a year out at his age might knock him back to league one level

His main attributes are physical, he’s got speed. On the ball and tactical he’s pretty average and that’s being kind.

Every manager in football, have players they like and trust, and players they don't like or trust.

It's obvious Carrick doesn't want Dijksteel as his starting RB

He didn't want Bola so we sold him, not sure that move worked out well, our Left back replacements have been very hit and miss.

Carrick is the manager so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, it's what he is paid to do, make decisions.

I've always liked Dijksteel and thought he was under-used. He's clearly not highly rated by Carrick though, who gets to see far more of him and knows far more about the game too. If he's wiling to stay as a squad player then I'd be happy to have him here next season, but he's clearly not the answer as 1st-choice RB.

Ayling is doing a good job for us now, but hasn't looked great in a 4, which is what we will go back to playing at some point, and is still only the second-best RWB at the club after Jones. I think Boro can do better than signing him permanently. Assuming Smith recovers ok, we already have the solid, highly-experienced RB slot covered anyway.

Ideally we sign a young RB with a lot of potential and ability (VDB or Rogers equivalent) and gradually introduce them into the team next season, with Smith as the reliable option.

ALL of the fullbacks need upgrading. ALL
RB in no order of choice
Danny McNamara free
Ben Johnson free but will likely go to a premier club
Ola Aina free
Jamie Shackleton free
LB
Harrison Burrows free
Max Lowe free
Sam McCallum free
Rhys Norrington Davies free
Sam Byram free
Charlie Taylor free
I will let MC chose , but I do like Danny McNamara.

I wouldn’t be in favour of offering Ayling a contract. He has been poor in most of the games that he has played.
Dijksteel plays well with Jones, who needs to be back in the team.

He’s not quite good enough to be first choice for us - as for Ayling, we should surely be looking at a younger more athletic right back for next season to hopefully compete with Smith

Id be very worried if we are signing Ayling as a first choice RB. If it’s just cover then Smith is the far better option
