Where I voted in favour of Mayor Cooke's budget.

It's not a budget anyone of us wanted, but we are where we are, it was this budget or effective bankruptcy.

Yes the general waste bins will go fortnightly, yes there will be a £40pa charge for green waste, we'll have to look urgently for a long term solution for Capt Cook Birth Place museum- the stay is for a few months only, but we will continue to provide most of the services that we currently provide, and the lights will stay on.

And Joan the moan McTigue, didn't bother turn up.

Thanks for the update. Couple of questions,
1 - If the existing waste bins are normally full each week when collected now, how are we expected to store/keep the waste for an additional week?
2 - Regarding paying £40 for the green waste bin, is this going to be collected every two weeks as well? If I pay £40 what will stop a neighbour who doesn’t pay putting there bin out? How will the refuse collectors know who has paid and who hasn’t?

Is that £40 per week or £40 per annum

The council have already spent over a million quid on new brown bins for green waste haven’t they? I’m assuming if you put your green bin out they won’t collect it.

Yes that was decided last December and voted on, the council would have had to buy new bins regardless because of harmonising the waste waggons.

What’s happening with the massive bill from the misuse of all the corporate credit cards?
This happened in 2021/22, when we came to power in 2023 it was noticed in audit and new processes have been put in place so it can't happen. There is no evidence that there was any misuse of payment cards, but the old way was open to misuse; We've stopped that opportunity.

There was plenty of evidence, such as hair cuts, meals out and even use of airbnbs. Assume the public have picked up the bill?

That's not evidence, children in care have hair cuts, meals out even sometimes have to visit other areas. You know like our children do. 90% of the card spend was by officers in Children's and adult care, social workers and staff that work close to Adults and Children in our care.

Actually I do recall that one member of staff was found to have abused the system, but as far as I am aware that's it.

But if it was mostly all above board why have new processes been required?

I know people who work in children’s services and they have told me that misuse was rife.

If the public have picked up the bill then this is a disgrace. The councillors who abused this system should be named and shamed and made to repay these bills. Won’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen
