Just been made redundant

Just like that. Meeting at 12pm, by 5 past it was all done and dusted. A couple of hundred people just made redundant at the drop of a hat.

If anyone needs a copywriter with an extensive background in luxury fashion then feel free to hook me up!
Genuinely gutted for you VAN.
I really really hope something more rewarding in every way shows up for you quickly.
You deserve it to.

Yeah to be honest the retail sector is absolutely screwed at the moment. Our sector is struggling and big names are really up against it. What can you do though. You just have to crack on and get straight back on it.
Are you 'up here' or 'down there' geographically?

Don't they have to pretend to have a 'consultation period' to explore other options before making everyone redundant anyway?
It’s been brewing for a while, Ashley’s Frasers Group bought our business in December. Everyone is absolutely stunned it’s happened this quickly. Press release at 9pm last night, chief exec gave a video call this morning and said what was happening, meeting at 12 and done 5mins later.

I think Frasers Group have just been asset stripping tbh. It’s probably as simple as that. They made everyone redundant and then searched everyone’s bags on the way out, even trying to confiscate staff orders that had already been paid for.

Yep. Unfair dismissal if not. Although expect someone like Ashley to try and find a way round it or just risk being taken to tribunal.

Good luck Viv. Hope you got a good pay out at least.

they need to have a consultation meeting. If the business model has changed or there is a valid reason to make redundancies then it is pretty swift however notice period and redundancy period will apply.

Bigger companies don't even bother with doing that if the workforce isn't unionised.

I got made redundant last year as our company moved their office from London to Staffordshire. They pretended that I could keep my job but my offer was based on me spending 2 full days in the office a week, commuting from Essex. They would pay for the hotel but I had to arrange and pay for my own travel.

Good luck with finding a new job Mr H; hopefully something will crop up. I've ended up at my old pre-pandemic employer, literally back at my old desk. There was even a ticket stub from Luton away a few years ago in the drawer.

I'm very sorry to hear that Viv. I was merely 'at risk' of redundancy after 2008 and that was stressful enough. Can't imagine how worrying that is.

Wishing you the very best pal
