Since we lost to Cardiff in the 2008 FA Cup quarter-final...

Karanka's promotion season is the only highlight since 2008. Seriously, what else have we had to celebrate in all that time? Yeah we've had some individual great results once in a while, but nothing to overly celebrate, especially when we were often brought back down to earth in true Boro fashion by losing to absolute shyte a week or two later!

Even though Karanka's style wasn't always easy on the eye, it brought us success and many a happy weekend because we were bloody hard to beat, (short lived as it was).

If I had to choose a one-off match though, definitely hammering the mackems 4-0 on their own patch. Loved every minute of it (y)

My favourite moment apart from Brighton promotion game .
Derby away March 2015 ,
Absolute class from Tomlin and Bamford, who then give it to the Derby fans , before running over to the Boro fans . Apart from the Wembley fiasco, enjoyed this season more than the promotion one

Other than the Karanka years we have had some good cup games. Utd and then Spurs in consecutive rounds under Wilder were great. Felt like we were on the up again. Outside of those matches/seasons the only other real highlight for me was watching Traore. He was the only player I've watched thinking he was the best in the world at something and it was genuinely exciting every time he got the ball and went on one of them mad runs. Such a shame he was playing in a Pulis side and not something more exciting.

Last season Akpom and co had me thinking that promotion was a probability, not just a possibility but when the big games came we had lost momentum and it was a bit deflating.

It's been a lean time for excitement since 2006.

It's weird because of how grim things are at the moment but I genuinely believe one of the biggest highlights of the last 18 years happened about 6 weeks ago.
Taken in isolation to beat Chelsea, be ahead in a major cup semi final and experience easily one of the best atmospheres in years felt incredible at the time.
Read some of the threads on here from afterwards, we were all like giddy kids drunk with excitement.
We now look at it with a slightly different perspective obviously!
Things can change very quickly in football.

I completely agree but I can’t help but wonder that if we hadn’t beat them our league form might have recovered sooner without the distraction.

It was, but it was a fairly meaningless game.
I never really include that in my best ever games. Wasn't it announced to the Man City players just before kick-off that they weren't renewing Sven's contract and it was his last game? They weren't happy and didn't really put much effort in. Especially when Dunn got sent off early doors. Some cracking goals though.

Yes exactly. Though of course I do like to remind my City supporting mates of the match. City were a club of similar stature to us at the time.
