Muniz

I think we just had players who were playing very well at the time so whenever he played he seemed superfluous and it must have affected his confidence. It’s typical that now we can’t buy a goal he’s on fire for Fulham, but I don’t think there’s anything we would have done differently. At the time.

He was one of 6 players we had on loan. Unfortunately only 5 could feature in the matchday squad so he often missed out.

Was a bit of a strange one, as we’d scouted him and tried to sign him permanently the year before.

I posted about this elsewhere. As said above we could only have 5 loan plyers in squad but for me one of those was Mowatt who was hardly essential on the bench. Only started 11 games mostly at end of season when we had injury issues.

Regardless of if Carrick had a problem with him or not (which I dont think he did at all) ... he wasnt the type of player Carrick would have picked.

You can see he fits the fulham mold much more, they like a presence up top an have done for a while, Mitrovic, Jimenez, Vinicius. All 6 foot plus, not exactly quick but can ruffle feathers.

It's a none issue anyway as Archer was so good for us.

He was dropped before we had 6 loan players. Carrick just didn't fancy him for whatever reason pretty much straight away. We only loaned Archer and Ramsey in January to take us to 5 and 6 loans. Before then we played Crooks or Forss and any sub was one for the other. Think Muniz started the first game under Carrick at Preston and then never again. The odd sub appearance after that but it was rare.

I did wonder if there was a chance that he wasn't playing because of something that might trigger a payment in his contract but once we were challenging for promotion it would have made no sense to avoid a payment if it meant we had a better chance of being promoted.

Carrick obviously just didn't think he could do the job he wanted him to do. Once Archer arrived it was irrelevant because he was clearly the only choice from then on.

We had Akpom who scored 29, and Archer who was scoring at the same rate for the second half of the season, so they picked themselves basically, they were the best two in those two positions we could ever have hoped for.

What formation could we play with two up top (Archer and Muniz) which also enabled Akpom to have a free role as no 10? We would have had to give up the width, which would have meant we had problems stretching teams and creating gaps.

Muniz looked good at the start, under Wilder, looked like he was causing big problems for the oppo defence, but then he drifted off. Our style with Carrick won't have suited him as well mind, keeping the ball on the deck etc, which is why Archer was such a good fit.

The emergence of Akpom effected his game time. I mean nobody could have expected his form. We would have sold him for 1-2mil had anyone come in for him that summer.

I never really saw anything to suggest we missed out by not playing him. Just didn't seem to 'fit' out style.

Although it's odd as we'd almost certainly done so many background checks etc on him. We actually tried to buy him the previous summer. So he had clearly been a longterm target.

He's doing well at Fulham. He's not the first or last loan signing that hardly featured for us and went on to do well. Jack Harrison has been a prem starter almost every week at Leeds and now Everton. He couldn't even get off the bench for us.

Even when we were resting players at the end of the reason to try and keep players fresh for the play-offs he still wasn't getting minutes other than a brief cameo at Luton.

Even when we had 4 loan players he couldn't get in the team, he would have been a good player to bring on to keeps the forwards fresh and maybe protect them from injury and fatigue.

I'm starting to question Michael Carrick's man management. Clearly didn't want Muniz, clearly there's issues with McGree and now there's obviously something going on with Dieng.

Mowatt was seen as better for the squad than Muniz, Boro got into the play offs without Muniz, when Muniz was able to be the 5th loanee he was given 10 minutes as sub
He wasn't good enough to force his way into the squad in the eyes of a manager who took us from just above the relegation zone to the play offs
I think Carrick did ok with his squad selection

He also started Silvera ahead of McGree at the start of the season, and continues to pick Glover over Dieng.

I'd like to congratulate "clearly" and "obviously" on their recent success in the weightlifting world championships.

But last season - when Muniz was here - he picked a team that got to the play offs from just outside the relegation zone
This season is different players - and those 2 examples are clearly where many think he's making wrong choices
They are irrelevant to the Muniz time here

I was at his debut at Watford away, should’ve been shipped out after that ridiculous attempt on goal from the half way line that resulted in their going up the other end and grabbing a last minute winner!

he wasn't very good when he played here, and now he's starting for Fulham and maybe the penny has dropped, there sees to be a mysterious
re-writing of both history and reality about his performances for the club when he was here

I don't disagree he didn't rip up trees when here and people saying not a Carrick player etc when we play Coburn up top. Funny one glad he's doing well not many strikers get a second chance in the prem
