Boro fan recorded making racist gesture at Leicester

I'm done on this. Newy I don't think you are doing yourself any favours by your attitude here.

I will leave it with this. Paraphrasing and misinterpretation of what others have posted is unhelpful. Trying to portray yourself as some sort of visionary on this complex issue is equally counterproductive. We are all embarrassed, annoyed and upset by what we have seen in that video, let's leave it to the authorities.

my attitude of.. defending myself?
I will leave it with this.
hope so

apparently I'm part of the problem and defending racists.. its clear to see what others have posted.

as I've said the bar has been set extremely low by certain posters

'lets leave it to the authorities' an interesting concept.. some would even go so far to say.. visionary

It doesn’t look good and it makes us look racist.. but booing footballers taking the knee is not necessarily in itself a racist gesture.. especially with the many different meanings that have also been attached to that gesture.
the only other explanation is that it's an ignorant gesture to boo taking the knee when the intent has repeatedly been stated and those decrying that the intent is "marxism" are the same right wing talking heads and red top "news" outlets

no nothing like that.

we've just got a bunch of whoppers who that being anti racist means enacting extreme vigilante justice against alleged crimes.

the ironic thing about the folks that scream so loudly is that they themselves are guilty of the same sort of ignorance and lack of understanding that brings about racist behaviours and attitudes. after in their battle to be seen as the most anti racist the most moral and upstanding member of the internet community.. their true colours are shown.. somethings even genuine racists attitudes!

calling for black footballers to receive harsher punishments than their white counter parts.. calls to hang black players.. where none have been made for white players.. the ongoing debate on the taking of the knee had someone calling for our players of colour to take action.. without hesitation or thought.. a white board member demanding that a young black player bow down and take a knee to appease his discomfort of a white fan booing.

did I read somewhere that the gesture was definitely racist.. because 80% of them in the midlands are black anyway.. or words to that effect? it's stuff like that.. things that wouldn't make you flinch.. but it comes from the same place.. which is ignorance.
Newy I hope you will reflect on your comments on this thread

You're really deflecting the thread away from that woman's despicable racist actions even saying they might not be racist - and also now trying to portrait the racists booing of taking the knee as 'maybe not racists'

The fight against racism isn't helped by that sort of deflection. That's what racists do too

(I know you're not a racist, but you're out of step with most people hoping to end racism)

Going to be some egg on faces when the footage emerges of a bloke dressed in a gorilla costume in the Leicester end...... 😏

(Sorry, know it's a serious subject and hard to imagine a scenario how she wasn't being racist. Assuming she was she should obviously be banned for life. And preferably from society, if only that were possible).

Maybe it was a little kid and she was just saying 'oooh you cheeky little monkey'.

My littlest loves bananas and I'm always calling him a little monkey in public. He is mixed race as well. Maybe I need to be careful!

How would booing footballers taking the knee not be a racist gesture? It's from the same people who said all lives matter during the George Floyd marches.
if the people booing were not booing at the fact it was an anti racist gesture.. if they were booing because to them that gesture represented something else. I've spoke about the difference between perception and perspective earlier on in the thread.

your perception would be that booing what you understand to be an anti racist gesture would in itself be a racist act.. which is a reasonable conclusion to come to. with a little perspective you could perhaps see the situation from other peoples points of view where they rightly or wrongly have been informed that the gesture does not represent a stand against racism.. to them it means something else entirely. I was criticised for mentioning this is a much earlier discussion.. probably a few years ago now.. where I state that Middlesbrough by stopping the gesture were aligning themselves with other clubs that had stopped doing it.. and other fanbases that had a larger proportion or racist fans were now identifying with our club.

unfortunaly I was criticised by our head honcho who I believe wrongly defended our clubs stance and brought in foodbanks and our work with disabled fans etc.. trying to make out that by me criticising the clubs stance on racism I was also criticising the clubs work in the community.. even going so far to say how inclusive our club was.. this at a time when we did not align ourselves with the women's team and had cut off all ties.

as far as the all lives matter crowd goes.. again it is an issue of education.. all lives DO matter.. no one is disputing the fact.. but the black lives matter movement was brought about after a disproportional number of innocent black were killed by the police in the US.
Colin Kaepernick's taking of the knee in american football was a silent protest inspired by a special forces friend (more respectful than Colin sitting) in order to protest the police brutality and killing at the same time as honour the lives of those lost fighting for america and their flag. some see it as a very American gesture and some see it directly linked with George Floyd.. others see it as 'not being boro' as simple as us and them.. those who do and those who don't.

believe it or not.. some people who have good intentions hoping to end racism.. actually cause more harm and create greater division. I do not need to agree with those people.

for you I am deflecting the thread away.. furthermore you believe that in some way that people on this thread are fighting some valiant battle against the racists. neither of these things are true. I do not need validation from anyone on this board as to my position.. let alone folks who are talking absolute garbage.

I'm out of step.. by refusing to follow a somewhat redundant narrative and escalate unnecessarily.

I do hope that folks on this thread can take some time to read and understand what I am actually saying and perhaps even take a look at themselves and maybe even apply some critical thinking before they post.

Some of the people booing were inherently racist, others were tacitly racist, further more were manipulated by racists to perform an act that supported and emboldened the racists. Any other categories?

Critical thinking is a valuable skill that can help you succeed in various aspects of life, such as solving problems, making decisions, and communicating effectively. But how can you demonstrate that you are a critical thinker, especially when you are applying for a job or presenting your ideas to others? Here are some ways to show that you are a critical thinker in different situations.

1. Ask relevant questions.

One way to show that you are a critical thinker is to ask relevant questions that clarify the purpose, scope, and assumptions of a topic or problem. Asking questions can also help you identify the gaps, inconsistencies, or biases in the information you receive, and challenge the validity or reliability of the sources. By asking relevant questions, you can show that you are curious, analytical, and open-minded.

2. Provide evidence and examples

Another way to show that you are a critical thinker is to provide evidence and examples that support your claims, arguments, or opinions. Evidence and examples can help you demonstrate that you have done your research, verified your facts, and considered different perspectives. Providing evidence and examples can also help you avoid making generalizations, stereotypes, or fallacies that might weaken your position or credibility.

3. Consider alternatives and implications

A third way to show that you are a critical thinker is to consider alternatives and implications of your choices, actions, or solutions. Considering alternatives can help you compare and contrast the pros and cons of different options, and evaluate their feasibility, effectiveness, or suitability. Considering implications can help you anticipate the potential outcomes, consequences, or risks of your decisions, and plan for contingencies or adjustments.

4. Acknowledge limitations and uncertainties

A fourth way to show that you are a critical thinker is to acknowledge limitations and uncertainties of your knowledge, skills, or resources. Acknowledging limitations and uncertainties can help you recognize the areas where you need to improve, learn, or seek help. It can also help you avoid overconfidence, arrogance, or dogmatism that might prevent you from being objective, flexible, or adaptable.

5. Seek feedback and improvement

A fifth way to show that you are a critical thinker is to seek feedback and improvement from others who have different backgrounds, experiences, or viewpoints. Seeking feedback and improvement can help you gain new insights, perspectives, or ideas that can enhance your understanding, performance, or creativity. It can also help you develop a growth mindset, a willingness to learn, and a respect for diversity.

6. Apply critical thinking to yourself

A sixth way to show that you are a critical thinker is to apply critical thinking to yourself, your beliefs, and your actions. Applying critical thinking to yourself can help you examine your own assumptions, biases, or motivations, and how they might affect your judgment, behaviour, or communication. It can also help you reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, or goals, and how you can improve or achieve them.

You haven’t half spouted some complete drivel on this thread.
I honestly still can’t decide if you are on some attention seeking wind up, or if you are being serious.
It reminds me of the Zouma drop-volleying a cat thread, when you dismissed people’s anger as ‘faux outrage’ simply because you didn’t think it was that big a deal. Similar ‘what a weird hill to die on’ vibes in this thread.

Right out of the Roofie copy and paste playbook that one fella.

I don't live on teesside, In fact I only spent 8 years of my life there and I'm getting on abit. But for this kind of stuff to go on still is disgusting.
I deal with some form of racism on the weekly, I'm hardened by it, I'm used to it.
Still should not be going on now in 2024 , we are supposed to be better than this. Very disappointed 😞.
It's a sad state of affairs that you have had to be "Hardened" by it Don...sorry to hear that. You would have thought that racist events would be a rare occurrence these days but sadly not. People saying that it's "creeping back in"...it's never been away for me...sad times.

I was in my local pub, with my partner, on an early one Friday a few weeks ago.
There was a bloke and his wife and he was on about the ‘Foo king immigrants’.
Apparently - they start in Italy and go raping and thieving before coming over here and doing the same.

I don’t stand for this any more.
I walked over to where he was sat and gently said - I can’t stop you from being racist but please keep your voice down. This is a nice pub and no one else wants to hear it.

As I walked away his wife shouted - Hey we aren’t racists.
I walked back and said - that’s fine then so you won’t mind stop using racist language.
I took my seat and got back to my beer and, they stopped talking.

As it came fir them to leave it was obvious it was going to kick off.
We were sat by the front door.
First she started with the ‘how dare you’ speech.
I kept calm and just kept repeating something like ‘just take your bile home and leave us all in here to have a nice evening’
He kind of pushed her out of the door and said ‘it’s now just me and you’. Proudly going on to say how many pubs he’d been barred out of. He wanted me to ‘Foo king die’ and finished with ‘I’ll be waiting fir you outside’.
As he left, I smiled and blew him a kiss.
I got the great response that ‘ahhhh your a fooking puff as well are you’.

I got lots of thanks from those in the pub. One guy with a huge dog went out to check he wasn’t around. And, of course the fella has been banned.

It was just a shame one 65 year old gadge was alone with his partner for about 3-4 mins getting abused by a racist whilst others watched on.
I can’t comprehend what it must be for non white people.

Love this!

I know for a fact I wouldn't have the balls to do this. Hats off
