Not sure that Rav will be there, he had so much potential I think a premier league club may come calling and I really think there is a good chance McGree will go he can play at a higher level than the championship.

I’ll get the negatives out the way first:
1 - glover
2 - RB is a problem whomever is there
3 - Hackney injury
4 - can’t keep a cleansheet
5 - desperate need of a striker

Positives are needed after that kick in the teeth of a result and there are some.

1 - Clarke had his best game in a Boro shirt, brilliant on the ball won everything off the ball
2 - decent partnership with rav
3 - Hackney and Howson dominate the middle
4 - Hackney was back to his best (hope that’s not a bad injury)
5 - McGree was excellent
6 - Azaz had his best game in a Boro shirt
7 - this team are 3-4 players away from being superb. If we had Riise tonight we would have won 5-0 to be honest

We are a ‘nearly’ team at the moment and seem to get badly punished for every mistake.

Some of our players are not quite good enough to play this style and it lacks solidity when mistakes are made so Carrick must be ruthless and weed out those who can’t do it and get in those who can.

Azaz looked a great signing tonight.

It was Rav’s sloppy pass that led to Preston’s first goal. If you’re calling one out then call them all out. Or just accept that sometimes, passes go awry. I’d much, much rather be watching this Boro team every week than that Preston one. Jesus wept they were absolutely abysmal. One stupid goalkeeping error and a wild deflection. We absolutely dominated them from start to finish. We just lack a cutting edge. I can’t believe we’ve lost that game tbh. I’d be tempted to take it to The Hague if I was Carrick, a crime of that magnitude. Unbelievable.

I will call Rav out that was awful too. I’m sick of flakey passes and powder puff defending. We are so poor defensively it’s actually scary.

We lack a lot of things.

Because Carrick has agreed to work with the players he’s got. He’s not going to spit his dummy out and say I’ve got no bloody strikers. That’s not his way.

He’s working within a remit and will always spin the positive message.

Agree too. Clarke’s got loads of stick, but he’s a proper solid defender an upgrade on Fry. First goal keeper should put his cap on it, second unlucky with the deflection. Even then with a more clinical edge we should have won. Greenwood was poor, but what’s the point of taking him off and bringing on Sammy?
 
We were the better side, but our deficiencies at both ends of the pitch cost us yet again.
I don't agree with Forss as a central striker either, I don't think he's got the tools to play down the middle. Infront of goal he is our best finisher, but I think he'd struggle with playing directly up against centre halves. I wouldn't disagree with him playing there in the absence of any other option, but I think he's better drifting inside.
It's a huge window coming up and I fully expect to lose a few of our best players. If we replace them with projects again and don't address the need for a proper centre midfielder and a striker then questions need to be asked. I read lots this week about our FFP headroom and finally spending the Tav, Spence, Akpom and Rogers money, but I'll believe it when I see it.
We can but hope that the recruitment team get lucky and give us a team that's better than the sum of its parts on a budget, a bit like Ipswich, but I'm not holding my breath.
