Its all about the cars. The difference any one driver can make to the final result is largely irrelevant. Results dictated by car set up, track layout, strategy and safety cars.

What position did Heiki Kovelienen finish the year Lewis won his first world championship (in probably the second best car in the grid) ?

Schumacher first title also in the Benneton, his team mate (Berger I think) finished I think 4th.

There's a reason top drivers make it to the top teams.

Correction Schumachers teammate was Jos Verstappen and he finished 10th!

Apparently not, most the reporting is saying Lewis just felt the timing was right. They have actually been positive about the SIM data which is more positive than previous two seasons.

Obviously that's just what's been put out there. F1 is all smoke and mirrors.

I don't think thays it at all. There's a huge free for driving for ferrari. And I imagine he is looking forward to working with Leclerc. The Hamilton / Russell (hey, good pub that) partnership just never delivered. It was too one sided
 
Timing is everything and I think it's similar to when he made the switch to Mercedes. Ferrari finally seem to be getting somewhere and the people they have started to get into key positions is all positive. That's without mentioning the insane commercial value of them both.

Leclerc and Hamilton is some driver pairing too.

I get it’s big news but I hope it doesn’t take up the whole season talking about this. We have a full season to finish first.
