Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

It's not great selling your best players all the time, but the aim isn't to always be doing this - we are just starting from a position of weakness financially

If we make a success of this model over the next 5 years or so (e.g. buy low, sell high) we will be in a much better position to a) sign better players from the outset, and b) hold onto those players when the big guns come calling

we're just at the start of the journey

Perfectly put 👋👋

People need to see the bigger picture.. some are worried about the impact his sale will have on the starting 11 for the next match which is crazy, meanwhile those in charge at the club are looking and planning years ahead.

Go with it, who knows, those making the decisions might just get it right and then we all benefit.

But Brighton have never stopped doing this. They have fully embraced a philosophy that no player (or manager) is indispensable. They'll flog Ferguson this summer for some stupid fee, or Pedro.

They don't get attached. Its the modern way.

If you’re going to follow modern professional football and support a club like ours I think you have to accept that what has happened with Rogers is as much part of the ‘game’ as whether we get three points on Sunday. All quite depressing, but as Mogga would say ‘it is what it is’

Morgan wasn’t our best player, yet.
He got games in thr cup matches and was improving and showing real talent. He was obviously drawn to Villa whereas other equally good and better players are happy to progress at Boro, maybe having seen what happened to Ben Gibson.
I also hope he doesn’t end up as a bench player at Villa.
Forgot about Ryan Giles

I don't think it's about going out and spending the money we get from sales as such. The ideal scenario we are wanting is having someone ready to step in from the fringes of the squad when we sell. Still very early in our squad development so maybe its not quite there and the Rogers sale has come a bit too early in that regard. However not every player is Morgan Rogers and others may be willing to give us a couple of season to develop. Maybe we bought Gilbert for example knowing he wasn't quite ready for the first team but will an eye on him coming through once we sell in the summer. Best laid plans and all that, sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches. 16M is a good deal for a player that still has a lot of development to do and wants out anyway.

Good post (y)

As I've said elsewhere - Azaz, Gilbert, and Greenwood all have a chance to make the #10 position their own (that's even if we don't sign anyone else) and all have a stab at it I'd say.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Azaz turned out to be better than him, in which case, we'd be scratching our heads about why we didn't flog him when we had the chance.

With all due respect to Morgan Rogers I just don’t have that end of the world feeling I had when the likes of Souness, Juninho and Adama left the club.
I agree I’ll say again it not losing Roger’s the player it’s letting a young up and upcoming talent leave he club after 6 months for what I think is a modest fee as it sets a worrying precedent.

We at Hull City look forward to signing him next season* for about £3m :ROFLMAO:

*Provided we don't get promoted this season which seems highly unlikely.

But he’d played senior football for Blackpool.

Look at Gilbert record it’s just very odd he’s not a kid either

He’s 22 and before us he’d played 8 senior games in his career

2020–2023Brentford0(0)
2021–2022Swindon Town (loan)8(0)
2023–Middlesbrough4(0)
I'm not making a case for Gilbert turning out to be as good as Rogers, I'm just saying we have 3-5 players who can also strongly compete for the number 10 shirt and who knows, 1 or 2 may even turn out to be as good or better. Greenwood certainly can on his day, Azaz looked good on his debut. Even Silvera has improved a lot since August.

I fully expect McGree and Jones to be shoo-ins out wide when both fit.

Put it this way, if someone said now that Gilbert will only turn out to be as a good as Rogers I'd snap your hand off!
