Hypothetically speaking, if conscription was real and people over 18 (if they were physcially and mentally able) had to sign up for a certain amount of time to fight in a war against say Russia, would you?

If yes, why? If no, why?

For the country? No.

Depending on the circumstances, I'd fight to protect my friends and family though.

Which may align with fighting for "the country" I suppose. Certainly wouldn't be doing it for a flag, politicians or that daft posh bloke who likes dressing up and keeps his nonce brother hidden away somewhere on his property.

Me thinks you don't understand the concept of Conscription and having a choice.

Do you sign up for a certain amount of time if you are conscripted?

I thought you just get marched to the front where you stay until you're dead or the war is over?

If I genuinely thought the cause was for the greater good, for example what older generations fought for in WW2.

I think the Russia / America relationship is not worth me fighting over, I think neither party is the ‘good guy’ if the UK got dragged into it.

Nor do I see much use in traditional man power at the scale we’ve seen previously to fight a mass war. A lot will be done via control rooms if the big players eventually had it out.

If hypothetically for some reason a super power tried to takeover Europe for pure domination reasons I probably would.

The whole point of us having nukes (and spending tens of billions of pounds on them) is so that we never have to go to war and can never be invaded.

So it would render them totally pointless for a start.

Yes, If I thought Britain were in the right.

If, for example, Britain had been the nation with the Nazi government, was murdering minorities and political opponents, and was invading its neighbours, I hope I'd have the strength of character to fight against Britain, but I suppose that's easier said than done.

The only legitimate fight would be on UK soil, suggesting somehow we'd been invaded. I can't think why a hostile power would go to the expense and inconvenience of invading our territory; nowadays they just buy the bits they want.

Difficult one, said yes because I know I am too old to be conscripted. I could do a good job in Dad’s Army if they give me a butcher’s van!

Yes . I would fight so that we retain the right to have our opinion and freedom of expression. Also to retain our right to run poles on message boards.
I would fight to protect the liberty of my family and future generations. Our grandparents did. Their sacrifices gave us the life we lead now .. it’s worth fighting for.
If your asking this question with a view on a certain despot over past Germany . I would suggest the answer of why you would fight is being answered by the bravery and willingness of the people in Ukraine to defend their own currently.

If we were being threatened with invasion I would fight and take orders from the army.
If I was being told I was going to somewhere else in the world to fight a forgien country that was doing things our government didn't like then no.

You don't fight for the country. When you sign the dotted line you swear allegiance to the King or Queen. You fight for them. If you don't swear allegiance to the King or Queen you are not allowed to join the forces.
By the way, it's not that long ago that Cubs and Brownies had to swear allegiance to the queen.

I would fight for my country if it came under threat of invasion or serious attack…
I wouldn’t fight if say in Yemen or Afghanistan or Iran tho…

I’ve already served my country and would again in its defence but probably would only get called up as a last resort at my age now…
