Villa have competition for Rogers

Villa blew WHU out of the water , deal done at £12.5m , big couple of days ahead .

Hopefully we use the money we'll and recruit exactly what we need, I still think there may be other leave, paddy and dijksteel as well as loans for younger fringe players

Same as Akpom it is only good deal from a pure fans perspective if we replace the sold player with someone better unfortunately we didn't with Akpom and not convinced we will with Rodgers but fingers crossed
Got the same money for them both though and Rogers is less proven than Akpom so all in all the club will think its not to bad.

Financially I can see why in the short term it looks like a good deal but I really believe Rogers will go on to become a really good player and command a much higher fee

I think we have to be realistic about how much we want to chase the playoffs this season.

If we splash out this window, we have about a 50/50 chance of making 5th or 6th.
Even if we make it, the 3rd and 4th place teams have won them 73% of the last 15 seasons, with it increasingly favoring them in recent years (Blackpool in 08/09 were the last team to win it from 6th).

I just think we'd be foolish to go all in when our chances of it paying off are around 1 in 20.
Just my guess of how likely we are to make the playoffs of course, but I don't think we can make 4th whatever we do, and the lesson of history is that the 5th and 6th placed teams don't do well in the playoffs.
We can match any team in this league on our day and we should fear no one if we where to make the play offs.

Last year we took our foot of the gas and had injuries this year could be roles reverse going into it ith momentum and a fully fit squad.

I understand the attitude of we may not be ready to be promoted etc but who actually ever is, we want to get back in there purely for the cash injection and I think we would back Carrick and could make a good fist of it without breaking the bank just like others have done.

At the end of the day we would be aiming for 4th bottom initially and go from there!

We have a decent chance of 5/6 place IF we replace Rogers with a signing who scores more goals .
We need to concede less , it is goals against that is our downfall , so a CH would improve that hopefully.
Worral , McKenna , Helik ?
Do we really need more CH's or is this a replacement for Paddy?

A real CDM, AM and Striker would be what I think we need

Akpom was out of contract though Roger’s isn’t.

Huge difference
Or I know, I just mean the club will think good profit and looks good when trying to bring players to the club I.e. we won't stand in your way etc but I will be gutted as I really think Rogers will be a super player and we have only scratched the surface.

Unfortunately this is the way the club needs to operate, in the summer it could be Hackney and/or Rav if he keeps improving and plays in his natural position.

I don't see any upside to us selling him this month. We should be commanding closer to £20m anyway when you look at the money being turned down from other clubs of a similar status to us.

I only see it being a negative. Lose a player who's been getting better and better when we really can't afford to be losing more players. Lose, I think, our biggest source of goals and assists halfway through a season where we've been complaining about having not enough goals, and 6 months after losing about 40 goals and 20 assists from the team. There's a reason people always talk about having to "pay a premium" in January, who could we go and get with the money? Probably more likely to sign another Hoppe than anything else. Clubs will probably try to have our eyes out even more knowing we'd have money to spend too.

We won't recruit. We already have Azaz as a replacement. The model is to build your squad over time and develop the players, so when one leaves another one comes to the fore is it not? Also we have McGree to return in this role. Rogers only got in the team in December due to loads of injuries. Greenwood, Crooks and Jones were the first choice three behind the striker up until that point (with McGree injured).

I am surprised we turned £12.5m down if true. It also shows how Villa were trying it on by offering £4m.

If we do sell Rogers this week we need a replacement, as Coburn seems ot be carrying an injury and Latte Lath is still injured. Hoppe doesn't appear good enough for the Championship.

If we’re going to get good value for players we probably need to send out the right messages and it selling this window would help imo .

Not when you consider Blackburn turning down 18m for a defender or Webster going for 20 plus mill, Keane Potter for 18 m I think and the kid from Bristol City for plus 20m aswell all of whom where or aren't exactly world beaters

Hull sold Bowen for £22million as well a few years back. The market’s inflated since then.

We should be asking for £20million minimum really.

Bowen was much further ahead in development than Rogers is now I was surprised a much bigger team than West Ham didn’t come in for him.

But as said that was then so with inflation 20m is what it should be, I would ask for 15m plus a player haha

Discounting his Blackpool experience which I think a lot of prospective buyers would ( apart from moves which led to nothing in the stats ) then he has only 14 starts in the Championship with us. All over the front 4 positions as well, he's had to fill in for us due to everything that's going on. All these other players that have gone for 20m , they have had 2 or 2.5 seasons at this level in their top position . That's like 80+ starts.
