The Djed Spence hot potato

Absolutely having Man Citys eyes out over Alan Kernaghan is up there.
Kernaghan had reinvented himself to be a very good CB for us, had a seasons PL experience. Fee to City was a "bit high" I always thought. £750k -1m would have been "about right". £1.6m.....🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Spence never made an appearance in the PL then was sold for £12m. And "spud" had a good attitude and was a good pro. Spence........

Suppose it's all subjective - was an awful lot of money back then, now it's what you would pay for a bottom end Championship/ League 1 player.

Well maybe he or his agent should've checked that before signing?

He wouldn't talk to anyone but Spurs, which probably affected how much we got for him as it significantly weakened our negotiating position (along with the fact he made it clear he wasn't coming back). In hindsight still an amazing fee mind.

He's not good enough to justify the amount of time and effort required to mollycoddle him in the hope of getting a tune out of him.

If he's not having smoke blown up his **** and playing every week, sounds like the toys quickly go out the pram. Very few coaches can be bothered dealing with that in their squad.
Only Cooper had managed to get him playing consistently well and even he didn't make a serious effort to sign him - that's telling for me.

Maybe that was because he'd made it clear that Spurs were his pick, but I suspect Forest thought that it was a high risk signing, even given how well he'd done for them.

Bit harsh on Davenport. He was excellent for Forest, decent for Man Utd...…and then he came to us.
After we offloaded him to Sunderland he ended up on a journey of free transfers around the lower leagues and Scotland.
Spence will probably end up the same way but hasn't achieved anything like Davenport did in his early years.
Dav was great for Sunderland, just not so much for us.

He prob needs a month with the club psychologist rather than being punted off to Italy for 4 months . Can't see this beginning middling or ending well
100% - someone close to him needs to make sure he gets some help. Invest in himself.. it’s like watching a car crash in slow motion.

I get the bitterness from our fans when he turned us down and wanted nothing to do with the club and erased all mention of us on his socials.. even his mum was getting in on the act!

But still a young lad at the end of the day.. we profited from his short time with us and now it looks like he’s suffering because he is not getting the help and guidance that he needs.

From what I’ve heard he needs to do a Gary Neville and find some positive role models.

Saying Davenport was decent for Man Utd is the equivalent of saying Spence was good for us.

Davenport, like Spence, did really well at one club and it bought him a ticket to the top table. All downhill from there.

There's loads of players like this. I'm sure we could all give an example.

Gestede - Got two big moves out of one good season at Blackburn

I just don't think you can compare Davenport's journey to Spence's.
Davenport played about 300 games over 9 seasons in the top flight. Scoring about 1 in 3.

His good spell at Forest was while he was actually already at the top table. His move to Man Utd was more of a sideways move in footballing terms at the time.

Not sure why anybody cares really. We got our money for him and he is off our books. It would be nice to see him turn this around and make the most of his obvious talent. He wouldn't be the first nor will he be the last to throw away his talent.

I think most fans were really excited and wanted him to do really well.. despite being hurt by his actions towards the club.. and therefore fans I think most still want him to turn it round and make a good go of it.

I'll be honest I dont care if he turns it around or not - as harsh as that sounds 😂
