ST Sales Re-Open to Gold Card Holders

There isn’t a response that satisfies everyone here. I renewed on 29th July. I did it mainly because i seen Sunderland stop renewals and thought I would get in before we hit the same sort of cap issue that prompted their decision. I also could afford the £516 they wanted, I was excited by securing Warnock and at worst thought I would get the first months games home and away on a live stream and as an ‘early renewer’ get priority when the ground re-opened. A decision taken at risk and based upon personal circumstances. Everyone had a chance to renew before the cut off but took an individual decision whether to do so or not. As I say the club will upset some people whatever approach they take.
But there wasn't a "cut off" advertised by the club.
That's the issue

I think after the Gold card deadline this week, they will open it up again to existing ST holders wanting to renew. Even if just to get to 9k tickets sold. I’m sure they’re doing their best - not everyone who has renewed will be able to go and there will be more discussions to be had in the coming weeks.

So why not just do that now?

Now that I'm reflecting on it I can see how the club have been put in a difficult position. They could have given a deadline but if ST renewal sales had have reached 10k and they realised that they could only allow for 9k ST holders, suddenly they're in a bit of a pickle. How would they go about deciding who misses out and who doesn't?

I guess a way around that would have been to give a deadline for renewals, but to also warn that they would have to suspend sales at 9k and before the deadline if that number is reached, so fans would be encouraged to renew ASAP and may miss out. That way at least the club would have been totally transparent.

As I said, I just hope long-term the club are fair about it. Those who have missed out on renewing with the early bird offer should still be eligible to renew with the early bird offer next season.

But in order to avoid shafting HC, they'd have to shaft someone else wouldn't they?

Why would they?
As a season ticket holder I'm not sure what else the club could do really they have a stadium limit they have to maintain and a deadline was always going to come, we are only a few weeks away from the season starting.
I do appreciate it's unprecedented times, and others clubs' have had to make the decision to suspend sales. I'm sure it's something the club wouldn't have wanted to do. I'm frustrated with myself really for not taking the risk and renewing, but I do always leave it until the last minute anyway.

I just hope long-term the club are smart are about it, and allow those who have missed out on renewing to renew with the early bird price next season.. It will leave a bad taste in my mouth if I have to purchase a ticket as a new buyer after having a ST for years now.

Furious.

To be honest after getting kicked in the balls over Eindhoven (which I understood as it wasn't in their control) if they lock me and my lad out from going to games for the whole season I'll just chuck both tickets in.

This is within their control and they have chosen to end the window of sales abruptly with very little detail as to way forward.

So why not just do that now?
I guess they wanted to give gold card holders priority now there’s limited tickets - like they did for Wembley.

Does anyone know what other clubs have done? Seems like all are just trying to suss out a way forward.

I don't think for one minute MFC will not let this happen.

Anyone who was able to renew last week at the Early Bird cost will surely be offered the chance of renewing at that same cost, when the opportunities arises.

Like someone has said earlier...there is not one single option that MFC could have put in place that will have kept every single fan happy. It's similar to the points system. Not everyone was and is happy about that.

My save the Boro fund letter, badge & a letter from Colin Henderson thanking for me been there when it really mattered & an honourably member of the club, will gazzump anything, fanfare, double trumpet & car horn blasting, along with all my tickets & badges I should be at the front, well I will be 🚴‍♂️🍻

😇

I do hope so because to be honest if they don't I can see them alienating a lot of ST holders, regardless of what division we'll be in.

if the club don’t allow me to buy this season, next season or whenever I have the chance, at the early bird price, with my current priority points and my free pint I’m done. I won’t go again.
That said I fully understand why gold card holders get first opportunity.

Same to be honest, and I think many others will follow suit. Not sure when Rob will be attending another supporters meeting but think this is something he should put forward.

A ballot for all existing season ticket holders is the only fair way to do this. Said it from day 1. It's not that difficult.

also weren't early bird prices available to all, whether existing season ticket holder or not this season?

This feels like a no win situation for the club.

Is this correct? The tickets were on sale to the general public, the club reached a specific capacity of sales, the club then stopped sales so that they could make sure all go card holders had chance to get tickets if they wanted them?

So basically everyone had chance to renew? Did they go on general sale for newbies at any point?

As far as i'm aware you could never have had a season ticket up until now, have bought one last week and get in to the stadium in October in place of someone that's had a season ticket for 24 years.

As someone who isn’t a season ticket holder and won’t be soon I can take the emotion out of it

I think the club have had to react to only letting limited numbers in at an early stage, they’ve had to stop season ticket sales before they got themselves in a pickle

They’ve then had to decide how they get to 9k fairly. In a ideal situation they would have started at 0, but due to accepting sale pre covid and during covid a sticky position has been created of no fault of their own.

They’ve had to come up with a way to one, honour current sales, 2 now try and apportion sales correctly.

Gold cards are the most logical Starting point. A limited time frame is short but it’s probably about as fair as they can give. 4 days.

Then can then start opening the windows by the next prefixes in tranches. Short windows too.

I think the club have handled it pretty well. They can’t please everyone but for once I think they’ve actually taken the most logical approach

I’m one of the 1500 gold cards who haven’t renewed yet, I’m also 39 so not worried about shielding, issue is I sit in the east with my young son, will be interesting to see what happens when I go to renew tomorrow as I can’t sit in the GRFZ without an u11 but can’t renew his ticket to sit in there with me as he is obviously not a gold card holder, bit chicken and egg really!
