Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Bali...nice in some places but essentially taken over by tourists particularly drunk Australian tourists.

I cant believe London, New York or Las Vegas make it on to this list, probably my 3 favourite cities in that order.

For me it's the Pyramids. You imagine trecking through the desert to find three solitary pyramids standing majestically above the Sahara. What you actually get is the Egyptian equivalent of the M1 steaming past full of burger kings and KFC's, whilst Arabs try and sell you tacky souvenirs to remind you of the experience.

One you get inside you see that tourists have decided that the only thing missing from this wonder of architecture that's stood for thousands of years, is to let you know that "Deano was ere 1986"

Niagara Falls. The actual waterfalls were amazing, one of the best things I've seen, but the place itself was a dump. Niagara on the Lake was fabulous though. We got really lucky that a couple we met in a hotel in Vancouver advised us to stay there and not in the town at the falls.

I really want to go to the pyramids and Athens for the acropolis but I have seen so little positivity about either. Maybe I need to go on a cruise and just pass through.

I love how subjective peoples experiences are in life, really crazy how one can perceive a place/ experience and another can have the total opposite finding.

I think Mona Lisa was uninspiring compared to such other amazing items in the Louvre and the beauty of parts of Paris more generally.

Not much at Landsend either.

Lourdes - The wife and I traveled to Lourdes a few years back with the full intention of spending a couple of days visiting the shrine, etc. Although you couldn't help to be impressed by the shrine, the roads leading up to it were full of tat shops selling cheap memorabilia at high-end prices and the bar and cafes selling their products at high-end prices for poor quality.

Also three of my favourite cities, though not in that order.

I also love the Isle of Man.

For me, Tokyo. Lacked the excitement of other Asian capital/mega cities and tbh I found it a bit of a sterile, concrete jungle. I was on my own for a fair bit of it, however, and I’m sure another visit might change my view.

That big red Eiffel Tower was sh1te n all.

Margate. Chas & Dave have a lot to answer for.

visited margate for the first time last year, thought it was great! especially the poncy hipster area with coffee shops, reclaimed crap etc. and all the towns on the coast nearby were good, loads of seafood to be had.
