Atmosphere Today

I've often thought the bigger the crowd, the worse the atmosphere. I thought today was really similar to those away games when we get big followings - a load of people who couldn't really care less about the game/score, they're there to get smashed, or are there purely because their mates have gone. I know quite a few people who went today who have no real interest in football, but were there as part of a day on the p1ss. Obviously nothing wrong and they've put money into Boro, but those type won't contribute to an atmosphere.
I said this a couple of weeks ago joey, that a large crowd rarely equates to a great atmosphere. Response was probably split 50/50 in agreement/disagreement.

The North has been very flat for a long time now. There's the twelfth man group at the back who try to get it going but it's very rare that the full stand is chanting these days. The Red Faction are brilliant and have helped the atmosphere massively but I have to be honest and say I don't like quite a few of the 'newer' songs. A few of the more traditional Boro songs from them would be good and might get other stands joining in.

I don't ever buy this reasoning.

There was no music during the match, and the atmosphere was barely there for most of it.

There was plenty of opportunity to build it up after each time we scored, it just didn't.

Probably not unexpected when it was a very comfortable win against a team stuck in the relegation zone.

Half the crowd were probably hungover too.
The lads at the back of the north stand were trying to get a chant going when the big banner was revealed but it probably couldn't be heard from the south stand.

If the music hadn't have been on then it may have been different.

Absolutely shocking to be honest. Much prefer Boxing Day game to be away. The best part was when the south stand starting singing above the red faction and drowning out their boring European style drawl. I’ve always been a big fan of the RF but quite often they kill the atmosphere with this slow, boring rubbish.

I for one couldnt have been happier when chrissy wilder said was confined to history i was sick to the back teeth of hearing it getting chanted every 5 minutes. The only problem is its not really been replaced with anything apart from weve got super michael carrick

Bring back they pyro and the pitch invaders and the peruvian passion powder!!

Can't usually separate atmosphere from events on the pitch. Great result today but very little drama or controversy to really bring the crowd to the boil. Thought it sounded OK on commentary though.

Perhaps you could put in a request to rf08 on their twitter? :https://twitter.com/rf08
Im really interested what this "European style drawl" is?
What would you prefer?

The Rf08 do bring the atmosphere but what I cant stand is the lads with the megaphones to start the songs . U don't need a conductor at a match to start a song. They are so annoying

You get used to the lad.🥁
The West Stand, particularly the South West Corner, sing louder than the North stand these days.🎵
West Stand yesterday got into the "Stand up if you love Boro" - wicker baskets, kids toys from Hamleys and gold watches flying everywhere.
Its spreading.(y)
Just need to get the East Stand and Steve Gibsons enclave to do the same(y)

We only seem to have one main song these days - the Carrick one - which is good but not a patch on the previous managers one. Liked it when West were asked for a song and did the classic Skies are Grey. Wish we could get more of the classics throughout the ground. Did feel flat I have to say. We need a big win against a top side I think. I’m feeling confident we are going places under Carrick but the buzz doesn’t seem the same as it did under Wilder this time last season. Maybe people are protecting themselves against future heartbreak when he starts flirting with Everton 🤪

Yeah the drumming is fantastic brings the atmosphere and the singing it's just the annoyance of the megaphone. Such a shame the North Stand sounds like a library these days. It's rhe reason why I moved to the south stand from thr North.

I think the megaphone lad needs a singing lesson or two.
His timing is definitely a bit off.
Did you see the banner yday.
I was underneath it and dont know what was on it?!!

Good atmosphere, not a great atmosphere.

The Boxing day match is more about a social occasion than a football occasion. 30k+ didn't turn up because Wigan was a must win game, did they?

You can have a better atmosphere with half that many there if they're really in to the match.

And those that normally create the noise were present, proving the point.

Or was it just an easy win?

There’s too much of that in my opinion and it’s prob why it’s so fragmented at times as fans who don’t know them can’t join in.
