I can't believe that some Boro fans on this thread aren't happy that Croatia won. As the underdogs i thought Boro fans would love that win. As for those calling it anti-football, was the Boro beating Man Utd at Old Trafford in the F.A Cup last season anti-football? We hung on in that game but had the heart and soul to take it to penalties, and when we won the shootout 10000 Boro fans had a great moment. I find it very strange that any Boro fan would root against the underdogs.

Nope, I didn't say they were gash.
It's a good plan they have which plays to their strengths, however unfortunately sometimes the opposition is too good to be contained by a plan, in which case they had to score? Fortunately they did with their only shot on target.
Whereby all those hours practicing penalties as their. main strategy gave them the advantage and it paid off.
I didn't catch the after match scenes though, I presume the Croatian crowd were spitting bile at Dalic and screaming at him in their mother tongue to "Take the fu(king handbrake off?"

You have to be joking, I knew that opening match by Brazil in the knock out stage made them out to be better than they actually turned out to be, every WC they do their little samba dances and for the last 5 they have come unstuck, that was disrespect to South Korea the other day, maybe they be better off quietly going about their business and saving a dance for if they pick up the trophy.

I would be delighted if was Croatian but as a neutral wanting to see good football they stink to high heaven. Going through round after round playing for penalties is dreadful for the tournament

In fairness, Croatia are probably the best team in the world if you consider the PER CAPITA idea. But England should still beat them. We whooped them in the Euros really.

It depends on what you are looking for. In some context people want to see the underdog win. But for most people they are bored of seeing Croatia do the same trick in every knock out game. Even when they aren’t the underdog. A lot of people watch neutral matches wanting to be entertained. And it’s something most Croatia games lack. Plus a lot of people wanted the big Argentina v Brazil clash.
It’s almost as if people watch football for different reasons. You’ve not got much right to tell people they are wrong for wanting team a or team b to win a match.

This is now Brazil’s joint longest stint without being Champions since their first title. I really think the days of Brazil being automatic favourites for every tournament should be over. They bottle it every time. So do Argentina. South America is a long way behind Europe at present I fear.

That’s what I was looking forward to as well.
Still think Brazil are a good team. I'd say 8 times out of 10 they would beat Croatia, but Croatia showed great heart. I don't think one shot on target proves you are something special. I don't get the Brazil haters (just because they celebrate with a dance). I'd much rather watch skillful players (even showing off) than not.

They are. If you watch South American football often it’s really pretty rubbish. You still get the odd star but it’s not like the olden days. Might change though as Brazilian club football is getting a serious amount of investment in the coming years after changing ownership rules.
It’s why all those posts about Payero being amazing because he plays for Boca baffle me. People think of the romanticised view of South American football rather than the actual reality.

Well a lot of Brazil/Argentina players are Europe based of course, but yeah, they still come here with big reputations and not many of them are genuine elite level (aside from an obvious handful of household names).

on blend of talent & experience we were behind them 4 years ago. Those that think we should have won, really need to be more honest when appraising our squad vs theirs. If you look a the team that lost that semi:
Pickford, Walker, Stones and Maguire were 4 years younger than today, Walker is the only one who was in his prime then.
Midfield was Trippier, Young, Lingard and Delli Alli, the talent of those 4 was way behind the Croatian team. It was a midfield that lacked combativity and discipline.
Sterling and Kane up front well they are now at what is traditionally their prime, they were a little undercooked in experience 4 years ago.
Rose, Dier, Vardy and Rashford were subbed on. The first two are average talent, Vardy was ok and Rashford was just a kid.
Today, I think we match up far better with Croatia as many more of this side are at their peak, the midfield today is much better balanced. We still have some quality like Saka and Foden that won't peak until the next world cup, but they're good enough to be a danger already.
