What on earth has happened to Jones the last 10-12 months

I think he would be a lot better with a RB who got past him though. I like Smith but he rarely gets past Jones to take a player with him and open up space, so jones often doubled up on

Our only outlet?
80% of our play goes down the left because nobody dare pass right as Jones will lose possession. Stop making excuses - the bloke is having a stinker again and needs taking out of the action for his and the teams good
The only person having a stinker today is you, you’ve already proved you nothing about football with your hiding comments on the other thread.

Past 10-12 months, I guess your hatred of a young Boro player is inhibiting your ability to read.

He is not playing as well as last season, just like many others, people are pointing out some of the disappointing things he does, and it can be frustrating but no difference to the passes from most of the team, he still did a lot of good runs, always looking for the ball and played 3 great passes into the box which could easily have been goals.

Hope he is not becoming the new target for constant criticism and negativity.

I think “utterly dreadful” is a little harsh.
He would be accepted into the majority of the squads in this league
like already said, he hasn’t done as well as he did last season, but neither has anyone else.

He may well not be playing as well as last year. However his stats suggest he will do better this season than last, even though he is doubled up on more often this season. 8 assists last season and 1 goal. 2 goals this season and 3 assists.

80% goes down our left?????? what. Talk about seeing what you want to see.

Jones is going through a bad run of form but that's not a surprise. He's a young lad and that happens to every young player. He needs to work on his crossing though, that's always been woeful.

Be fantastic if we could give him a rest.
We expected far too much from him in his breakthrough year.....and to be fair he replied with remarkable consistency until the last couple of months of the season
But our previous devotion to wing-backs means we haven't got a winger in the entire squad (Watmore perhaps).
If you look back to just before Wilder came in we really had run the squad down to the bare bones. We didn't even have a left footed defender until we took Taylor on a short-term loan.
Surely - under our new regime a right sided creative midfielder (do wingers still exist) will be coming in to compete with Jones?

Had a much better second half and still our most creative player.

People need to be patient, he's only played a very limited number of pro games, never mind at this level and so far he's been brilliant, despite being a bit up and down at times this season.

I think people forget the team has been very poor for a while now and that affects everyone's form and confidence.

I can forgive Jones for putting a poor cross in or a loose touch, but his poor temperament is starting to grind on me. Stupid fouls, kicking out, needless shoves, all earning yellow cards will soon see him dropped under Carrick I think.

It’s a sign that the opposition are getting to him and he will cost us with a red one game soon.

He obviously became more a marked man after February and it may have effected his overall game. He certainly was getting more frustrated as last season went on. He needs another player like himself to disrupt defenders and possible work on crossing and shoting with his left foot. This would make defending against him more difficult.

He is having to adjust to different players supporting him, last season Djiksteel and Crooks would be in moving around him and making angles and passes, this season he has a different formation and Smith as the full back additionally he is expected to play further forward so it has been a learning experience for him. And of course, he is now a "threat" that opposing teams will look to nullify.

His discipline seems to be improving slightly he raced to five cards but seems to have slowed down accumulating them recently. He's getting there don't expect too much from him, he's not going to win games on his own for us and he is contributing to our threat going forward.

That one in the first half was particularly annoying. Right in front of the linesman and gave away a free kick for an off the ball challenge right as we won the ball back. No need to do it.
