A worrying trend as 4 serie a games have been called off after confirmed cases of corona virus has been found in several Italian cities.

inter v sampdoria, Torino v Parma, Verona v Cagliari and Atalanta v Sassuolo are all suspended. As are several serie b c and d games

“ Several towns in the Lombardy region have been placed on lockdown, with schools and offices closed and residents urged to stay away from accident and emergency departments.”

I've informed hopeso via the other board that their holiday to Sicily might be affected.
I'd have done it on here but there's been no sign of them posting here for some reason.
Fingers crossed they see your post Zorro.

Sounds really bad over there-

The total number of cases nationwide is 132 including 89 people in Lombardy, 25 in Veneto, nine in Emilia Romagna and six in Piemonte, the head of the country's civil protection service, Angelo Borrelli, said on Sunday afternoon.

Local Italian media said on Saturday that at least 10 towns were effectively locked down: Casalpusterlengo, Codogno, Castiglione d'Adda, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano.
Individual cities outside the area covered by the ordinance, such as Cremona, issued their own restrictions after confirming there were local cases.

The mayor of Codogno issued a decree ordering the closure of all restaurants, coffee bars, schools and public gathering spots such as discos and gyms. The health ministry advised area residents to stay home as a precaution.
Local officials in another town, Casalpusterlengo, ordered local schools closed through Tuesday.
A third town, Castiglione d'Adda, said its libraries, public offices, gyms and garbage depots would be closed as a health precaution.

Could be months before we see the full extent of the spread of this virus. The fact that we identified a potential super-spreader early on could well point to problems with the incubation period being much longer in some people than normal.

I will be in Sicily on Mar 7. Of course the Serie A story caught my attention but ... Sicily is still a long way from Northern Italy. Of course there is internal travel/contact, but there are probably 50+ flights a day between north Italy and London alone, not to mention open borders and 10s of thousands moving daily between that region and Swizterland and France, and the 100s of flights to other parts of Europe.

So where do we extend our "be careful if you're travelling there to" concern?

A friend here in São Paulo went for a fairly routine medical appointment this week. When she mentioned just in chat that she would be visiting London and Amsterdam in March, the doctor issued her with a pack of 20 surgical masks and strongly advised "not to travel to Europe".

I know you should take some precautions but ....

.... after Sicily I may be in Teesside for a few days ...

In 2019, 43 million were sick with flu, 700,000 went to hospital over 60,000 died , if I was you I would put a mask on, go to bed, read War and Peace and Don Quixote and take a few nerve pills.

Ah the flu argument, it’s been around for years keeps evolving and we have a vaccine for it

The coronavirus has started from a standstill....we don’t know it’s full potential. It spreads pretty quick though. We will know more of the extent of it now it’s in counties without censorship

Roughly 2% of cases end in a box, of which 90% are old or have other issues.

Would I go on a cruise ship, no, would I go anywhere in the US and Europe, yes without worrying for a second.

It’s pretty scary that it started in a city in China before Xmas and 2 month later italia is calling off serie a matches. It shows how global and how widespread the threat now is.
imagine if that happened here towns on lock down public transport cancelled or in chaos ( so no change there then)

Based on the cases that were counted. I don’t think we know the full extent of it. I don’t know which videos are real or fake either.

Eg on social media 2 Iranian children who are having clear respiratory problems. Looks real but is it properganda....

I’m fit and young I don’t have any worries, I hope.
