I truly believe this is the idea, how well it’s being implemented only time will tell but in fairness Scott has been in situ a very short time and wasn’t involved in Wilder’s appointment. We need someone that doesn't think it's their toy to boost their career & if it all spaffs up, well.. that's just tough for the club & stuff the fans..
DOF & recruitment out of managers hands is the right system to implement by the club & IMHO we need more of a coach than manager..
I just can't help but feel that the 'obvious choice' hasn't really worked for us, almost at any point in our history, going back to the Robson/McClaren days they weren't even obvious choices.Cooper if he gets the boot at Forest would be an obvious choice though Carrick could certainly be worth a punt - done his coaching & worked in the roll also, always seemed like a very professional guy..

It all started around the Strachan time, then there was Mowbray/Karanka which worked well, but then we got into this cycle of Monk/Pulis/Warnock/Wilder, basically appointing the most famous manager whose currently out of a job.
We used to think a bit more creatively with our managerial appointments, and they seemed to work out. We tried it with Woodgate but I think Gibson misjudged how much credit Woodgate had in the bank with the fans (ie none).
What was it like pre-Rioch? I'm guessing Malcolm Allison was a sort of 'obvious choice' that didn't work out too?
TBH - I think people seem to believe many if not most managers 'work' & only 'ours' fail - fact is almost all fail some after a short period of relative 'success' or more likely a run of decent / good results.. then like Wilder (who is as Souness states, is probably a - good - manager) have a poor spell & have to go.I just can't help but feel that the 'obvious choice' hasn't really worked for us, almost at any point in our history, going back to the Robson/McClaren days they weren't even obvious choices.

Cheers mate! My club needs me (well, my opinions )Welcome Back Mate!

I fully agree. I think the most important thing about this appointment though is to get the new 'coach' to buy into the new structure and accept from day one that he is basically playing second fiddle to Scott in terms of recruitment/sales etc. Wilder clearly wasn't down with that and it showed but doesn't mean he's not a good manager per se. Same goes for Warnock although Scott wasn't in post the structure of the club I believe was changing at the time. Wilder was the wrong appointment in hindsight, even though he was the 'best' option available (on the surface at the time).TBH - I think people seem to believe many if not most managers 'work' & only 'ours' fail - fact is almost all fail some after a short period of relative 'success' or more likely a run of decent / good results.. then like Wilder (who is as Souness states, is probably a - good - manager) have a poor spell & have to go.
I'd be inclined to give Carrick a chance, seems to be a good professional & if he's able to get players working together then we may win some games.
Carrick's record is lossless ;-) W2 D1.. I'll take that all day long.I fully agree. I'm warming to the idea of Carrick, if he can work in this way, as a coach not a manager. The last Geordie who 'managed' us did ok.
