Dortmund Boro fans

Anyone know the background to the dortmund fan links? Half and half banners/ flags in the dortmund end away at city the other night, pics are all over social media. I'd do a link but I'm no good at technology

From reading a few comments seems it's just some friends, one a Dortmund fan, one a Boro fan who visit each other and go to games. Don't know if that's true but seems the most plausible.

Prefer this link to the growing trend of Boro fans also supporting Rangers, which I can't fathom.
This must go back years, iirc you could buy half and half Boro and Rangers bobble hats from the club shop when we were at Ayresome Park

I know one of the lads who’s part of the group that goes to Dortmund games, think it just came from that and making friends while there. Started around 2011/2012.

Dortmund is the biggest city in the Ruhr with a population of around 600,000 making it nearly 4 times the size of the Boro. Like Teesside its population exploded in the period 1850 to 1900 with people coming from Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe to work there and staying.

On March 12th 1945 there was a massive bombing raid of 1,108 Allied aircraft - the largest of WW2 - 98% of the centre of the city was destroyed. The area produced synthetic oil and steel in large quantities then.

It is a left wing area (SPD a sort of German Labour Party).

We have always had fans going to Celtic or Rangers, probably more so Rangers, There is a group of Boro and Brum City fans who attend England games everywhere, once you have that st up with England it draws them to Rangers matches/ connections

I think I recall in the mists of time we had a pre-season home friendly with Dortmund and they brought quite a following. From what I remember, their fans enjoyed the day, and we’re impressed with Boro.

Yes i remember that game - we played absolute dog ***** and they won 0-2. The Dortmund fans were a right noisy bunch

When we were at Eindhiven we met a German in one of the pubs near our square. His name was Rainer and he had followed Boro all over Europe and been to A Park and the Riverside several times. Followed us since seeing a documentary about "the club that nearly died" shown in Germany. He said the way we came back under Rioch was inspiring. Still e mail each other every now and again. He takes defeats a lot worse than me.
