Out of Work Managers - Gibson's Cheap MO

Ok, good to know. Who would we get then?
If Gibson gets rid of Wilder because he doesn't like how outspoken he is then he'll revert to a yes man which means an internal promotion for someone wholly unqualified. Probably Leadbitter or Howson.
Gibson has always stated that he does this out of principle - he does not think it right to poach managers under contract. Shouldn't we accept that as his motivation?
No. It's too important a role to just select from a bunch of managers that nobody else wants. Sometimes there will be good candidates available but not always. AS long as the club you are approaching accept then what is the problem. There will be a fee to pay, like for a player so why only be principled in that one area.

It's daft though, we shouldn't view signing a manager as any different to signing a player. As long as any approach is done above board and appropriate compensation is paid why is it an issue?

I don't think he will get rid of Wilder because he is outspoken. More to do with the league position. Wilder clearly ain't happy with recruitment and Gibson won't be happy with results. Normally ends one way

Not only will be looking for a manager who is currently out of work but one who will work within the current framework and with the recruitment model we currently have

All of which points to Wilder not going anywhere soon.

Depends how much you want to be in his good books I suppose.
And let's be honest, what choice do we have other than to accept it?
Although we can moan about it on message boards and if we're lucky he might read it and suddenly realise what a ridiculous policy it is.

There is more chance of Gibson applying his “principled” approach to signing players, than there is him changing his approach to only appointing out of contract managers.
If we look at Lenihan, Smith, Roberts, Luongo and perhaps Stephens, maybe he’s already started.

As I see Tony Bloom's Brighton (now the model for us to follow) seeking their replacement manager, I note that the two highly-rated Scandinavian coaches they are chasing are, shock horror, currently doing good jobs.

How do we ever expect to improve if Gibson keeps appointing out of work/sacked managers? Only the newbies seem to ever work but it's always a big roll of the dice.
I agree it’s madness.

It’s a bugbear of mine this I’ve said this for years now. It makes zero sense and definitely harms us as a club.

Never understood why signing a manager that is in work is a problem. It's a transfer, similar to signing any player. Difference is it is a much more important position. If we're willing to spend several million on a striker to play in the U21s then doing the same for a manager shouldn't be a problem.
It’s not

My biggest issue with the club if I'm honest. Only going for out of work managers is old fashioned and seriously detrimental. Why artificially limit the search for the best candidate by instantly ruling out the majority of them?
I don’t think it’s even old fashioned as clubs have always sought managers in work it’s just Gibson own bizarre ethics rule that no one else in world football abides by.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Zinedine Zidane
Laurent Blanc
Marcelo Bielsa
Nuno Espirito Santo
Sean Dyche

All out of work! i would love to see Nuno but i suspect he has higher job expectations than us. I am sure Dyche would come here though.

Zidane would be a great move too! :ROFLMAO:
I wouldn't be so sure on Dyche wanting to come here. If Wilder was to go then out of that lot, for our level and considering the relative rewards to possible outlay I'd prefer Bielsa.

I thought Daniel Farke would have been the man to come in before Wilder did. He got on well with Kieran Scott at Norwich and was out of work.

What's the difference between doing that with players though? And coaching staff, boardroom staff etc?
