45% DROP IN BRITISH ACTS BOOKED FOR EUROPEAN FESTIVALS POST-BREXIT

Most people are not listening Kosovo - read a lot of the posts on here there is a lot of its the end of the world as we know it quite a few posters seem to glory in the negativity. Half the UK population appear to be branded Hard Brexiters/UKIP style supporters.

It could be same at Government levels too with no one interested in changing or modifying what they do.

Maybe in a few years time Ice Station Zebra will start to thaw.
It's not half the be population; it's a shrinking minority, as more people realise that it's a fiasco.

If there had been an attempt to establish what "sort" of Brexit a true majority would find acceptable we could have a working solution. Most "Remainers" would accept leaving the EU and becoming a member of EFTA or some sort of related organisation giving us membership of or parity with the Single Market and Customs Union and quite a few Leavers would too. Treeser May threw that out of the window when she jumped into bed with the ERG and wrote the "red lines" thereafter wedding us to a hard Brexit. And this is where we are, a complete clustefukk with many Leavers distancing themselves from it and others still in denial heads in sand or pathetically claiming in a juvenile fashion that "they won"...

If they won they should open their prize because I suspect that someone took a dump in the box before they wrapped it up.

Flogging a dead’un here NYb. Facts aren’t the point for some people.
4 points off GDP, for now. SME’s in meltdown. The inability to source parts and items from the EU because a lot of companies there can’t bothered with the hassle….and that works both ways.
BoE predicting a recession….a long one, but that’s ok because apparently it’s all the Russians fault.
.
Ignorance isn’t anything more than a lack of knowledge. But, wilful ignorance is a different creature.
But I’m sure if we all believe it will all be ok

Brexiters control the Tory party.
Seems a very fixed black and white statement - I am not a natural Conservative voter, but I am aware most of their MPs were Remain and significant minority of their voters (39% according to You Gov) in June 2016. The newer Tory MPs are brexiters but many are in seats that could well change in another election (for example Redcar). There is a ERG group that are hard Brexit but they are not the majority, but high profile. Before June 2016 I would say control was by MPs who were remain (75% of the cabinet were Remain), so things can change. My MP will not divulge his opinions so I am assume he voted remain and he is Conservative.

Because we are no longer in the EU musicians need a work visa for every country. No longer being in the customs union we need to account for all equipment and merchandise being carried across each border. You are commercial, you are working. It doesn't matter if you are the Stones or Shrug.
Cheers Rob and Central. An answer at last instead of blatant baiting.

Would a way around the payment issue be for bands to be paid in this country after/before a gig abroad or does it not work like that?

It's nothing to do with payment. It's all about imports and exports and taxes.

Well, both of the prospective leaders are trying to out-Brexit each other so I think it's fairly safe to say that Brexiters and Brexit itself controls the party.

Your assumption that a Conservative Remain MP will not divulge his vote supports that, rather than anything else.

The 'Remainers' have mainly gone or have 'changed their minds'.

I was under the impression there are 20 countries in the EU that we have done deals with that musicians will not need a visa to enter

These countries are: “Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden”

Do you have a link? Would be interesting if true although no-one needs a visa if they don't stay more than 90 days in 180.

As helpful as that is, it would be better if they published which countries have which restrictions.

Ireland was always visa free due to the CTA.

Belgium isn't across the board. They judge each band/performer individually but clear acts with an international reputation.

Denmark offer 90 days to those who “Participate in a substantial or essential part of a noteworthy artistic event”.

Just asked a European booking agent I know. A carnet for a band is £500 and lasts 10 months. That would be a massive amount of extra money if you were doing one small tour. If it was a long tour then you might need to cross hard borders and then pay extra and build in the extra time sitting at borders.
Bands ordinarily tour once a year don't they.

So, the thread makes total sense. A UK band would now need to ask at the very least £500 more to play a European festival.

Out of interest what is the fee range for a professional band paying an European Festival?
I don't know how this applies across Europe, but here's recommended rates from the union.

The bands that are hit hardest by this fiasco are the ones starting out and operating on a shoe string budget, they used to be able to scrape a living by piling their gear into the back of a van and touring around Europe freely. For a lot of them now it's not economically viable.
