Dael Fry

It's obviously subjective as to who is 'better', but only one of them was in the Championship team of the season for last season, and it wasn't Dael.

Fry is good but in a Wilder system there is only one space for a traditional centre back. I don't know enough about Lenihan to know which one is better but if they are very similar but Lenihan is a better leader then I'd imagine Lenihan will get the nod. I think that is Fry's weakness and Wilder has talked about needing more leaders.

Don't think I'd want him to pay the LCB role of we're expecting them to get forward but if he's only asked to be a defender then he shouldn't have a problem playing there.

Lots of chat on Spurs Twitter that he's a target for them as a replacement for Rodon

I will tell you what, if we sign a strong LCB on top of Fry, Lenihan, Dijksteel, McNair and Bola and keep hold of them we will have an extremely strong Championship defence.
Wouldn't it be nice to have any similar debate in midfield, or any debate at all up front.

I don't know what his first choice back 3 would be, but I can't see Lenihan coming without playing guarantee, or Fry, McNair or Dijksteel reacting well to being on the bench. It is not like strikers, you don't play 4 over the course of a match.

It’s a very strong area for us and there is gonna be a couple of ***ed off lads

Got a feeling McNair will be more of a midfielder this season, or certainly until we sign one or two. We are already light there having lost Payero, and there’s a possibility Tav could leave too. We aren’t even linked with anyone.

It’s mad, we ain’t been linked with a midfielder or LCB for a while. Of course we were linked with Mooy but he went to Celtic like the day after

I would be loathed to drop fry, mcnair or dijksteel would get the hook before fry.
Are you saying we have Lenihan in the centre and Fry Mcnaiar and dijksteel all vying for their prefered side as ther right sided centreback, and no naturally left sideded central defender,

in what order would you say they are in terms of capability as the left sided centre back , can mcnair not play there or lenihan if not fry

Ok so I’m thinking a LCB is still a target. If that happens I don’t see Fry being dropped, I see McNair as cover for midfield (or CB) and Djiksteel as cover for right back (or CB). End of the day it’s a squad game. That said who knows?!

Lenihan starts in the central spot all day over Fry IMO and if i was picking too. Lenihan is the better centre half, he's one of CW's signings, he's more vocal a proper leader and he'll be the one given the central spot.

Lenihan will be the centre back, what we have seen at Blackburn and so far in pre season he is everything needed. Leader, brilliant in the air and a top player with the ball. Ideally you would have Dijksteel and McNair battling it out for RCB and we would sign a LCB specialist. Until then I would say McNair and Fry will compete for the LCB role and Dijksteel will play RCB. It’s going to be tough for Fry

Obviously the bonus for Fry for now is McNair is suspended for first game so he’s a guaranteed starter and it’s Upto him to keep the shirt

I like Fry, always rated him even as a kid when a few on here were saying he wouldn’t make it. As a few have said above Fry isn’t too comfortable as a left sided centre back, and McNair is the most obvious one to play there when he’s available. If we do sign someone to play that position then McNair i think is the most likely to leave, although Fry has a higher market value.

I always thought Spence Tav and Fry would go this summer and I think Wilder is planning on life without Fry. With everyone fit I don’t see Fry starting and both McNair and Djiksteel were on a consistency basis head and shoulders above Fry last season. For me Fry’s best games were in the FA cup and he might be a player suited to playing higher quality football than EFL level. There was talk the West Ham scouting team were looking at Jones at the Marseille game on Friday but could easily see them or Spurs taking a punt on Fry for what in EPL terms is a relatively cheap risk.

We do seem to have 1 more RCB than we need. After Friday Lenihan plays CB for me. Fry is RCB and with Lenihan next to him he will only get better. Would prefer a left footed LCB but if we dont get one then Dijk and Paddy can fight it out and cover for the others if injured.
Re Paddy, surely people remember what a dysfunctional midfield we had when Paddy and Howson played together. It wasn’t that long ago. Our forwards struggle enough without cutting off more of the supply line

Can’t see Fry being RCB. Wilder has already stated Dijksteel and McNair will fight that position out
