Simon Clarke defending Boris Johnson

Last night on Newsnight when asked about the Jimmy Saville comment, Clarke said that it was a "perfectly reasonable remark for the Prime Minister to have made”.

Nauseating.
Nauseating beyond belief

I’m ashamed of the people of Teesside for being so thick to vote for this animal

I mean, people who have professional qualifications and are a educated however we have a crisis in this country in terms a distinct under developed‘Emotional intelligence’

That’s the pandemic; enough emotional intelligence automatically allows you to see the difference between greed and selfish (Tories) and Lib Dem and labour approaches of greater fairness of distribution of who pays to help the country move through these crises

Isn’t that the point of the comment though, that you can’t possibly be held accountable for everything going on in your organisation
I think it's Johnsons defence. It was said in a very different tone in parliament though.

People generally don't understand the difference in responsibility and accountability.

responsibility is about the ownership of activity. A diff lawyer was responsible and came to the conclusion their wasn't enough evidence. There probably wasn't, but that's a failure of policing accountability and responsibility.

Accountability is about governing that responsibility has been carried out correctly, learning from failure and improving process and methods in future......Starmer did that, he recognised the failures that occurred in Savile case, and improved the service to ensure that better results would occur in future, they did. So Starmer succeeded in his accountability.

Considering the pandemic is over and all restrictions lifted that seems like a large number of people in hospital and intensive care.

By the same standards surely that’s him also admitting Johnson is to blame for every single government party, and every single brexit problem 🤷‍♂️
I was going to add that as well Priv, but that would require said emotional intelligence and an understanding of irony.

I always wanted to see a local MP sitting on the front-benches right in view for the country to see.

Every time I watch the HoCs now and see his smarmy face I just want to turn off. How he has managed to worm his way so far up the ladder I don't know, oh actually...

That's a very good point Mart. He also acted very quickly. Also, I think he had been in post a couple of months when the CPS decided not to prosecute Saville.

I can't even bear to look at that scumbag. Seriously, I'm a pretty chilled fella usually but he really grinds my gears.

It is strange seeing Clarke (Guisborough MP) and Sunak (Great Ayton MP) sitting next to Johnson. Next they will have a photo of Roseberry Topping in the background.

He has absolutely zero clout and is enjoying his moment in the spotlight. He wouldn't get a bit part in The Thick of It. Shameful.

Knows that Johnson's is his only hope.....none of the rest would have give him even a sniff of keeping his seat
