Winter Walks - Selina Scott

When the morning news programs first started selina was a big star.
She flew offshore to do a live piece on one of the rigs but the weather closed in and she couldn't get off.
So they put her up overnight in an en-suite cabin and she got off the day
The Bears auctioned the pubes left in the shower and they made a decent lump for charity 😁
True dat.

Love this programme. Guest each week conducts a lone winter walk in Northern England. Just watching Selina Scott together with selfie stick walk along the Wharfe near Otley. Wonderful and relaxing TV. Will be on Iplayer tomorrow.

Understand Selina lives on her farm in North Yorkshire.
Was head girl at the school I went to, her brother, Robin was in our class . Apparently he lives in a property on her farm now.

You'll find different series on BBC iplayer. Search on 'Walking with' (Jim Moir et al), ' Winter walks' (Selina Scott et al).

The original and best celeb-free series was 'Yorkshire Walks' with Shanaz Gulzar, but they've taken them off iPlayer for some reason.

Nice programme - mixing the walking, counytryside with chats (mainly retired professionals) and poetry. Her hair colour has dramtically changed so a lot of the people she met did not know who she was or has she just been off the TV for a long time?

She went to Laurence Jackson school in Guisborough in the late 1960s.

There was a great show on this morning 100 greatest UK walks.

@Artie Fufkin Glad you enjoyed it. I was Series Director and am now very proud of its national treasure status.

I enjoyed Winter Walks tonights as she was in my back yard, so all familiar territory to me. I was particularly thrilled to see inside Linton Hospital, which I've only ever looked at from the tables outside the Fountaine Inn.

We've done 37 of the 100 since it was first shown. How Crosby Beach made it in to the top 1000000000 never mind the top 100 is something that I'll puzzle over for the rest of my days.

Voted by members of the Ramblers Association/Ordnance Survey etc. But I take your point. We di loads of filming up at roseberyy Topping and Captain Cooks which never made the final cut.

Wow, that's pretty darn cool. I've recorded it for planning some our walks with our hiking group for this year. We've done several already but we'll be doing no. 1 again as that's our fave as well. Did it twice last year.

Great to see high cup nick on there, that's a personal fave along with the Malham cove circular

The Malham circular (via the Tarn) is my favourite too. It was effin freezing the day we were there with Ade .... -10 with wind chill on top of the pavement. But I think my favourite day's filming was Snowdon with Jamie. We had a 24 hour weather window to get up there, with the onset of winter, and had to wait until late for the hero shot on the summit with Jamie alone on the mountain. Then came down in the dark. So many great memories of making that show and I genuinely appreciate it when people say thay have been inspired to have a go at some of the walks.

You and the team should be very proud, it's a great programme

Trying to complete the remainder of the wainwrights this year, but we'll get to do some others on your list for certain

We made it in 2018 but it's still a useful guide for people. For me I would recommend Stac Pollaidh, The West Highland Way, Craster to Dunstanborough Castle, Grassington to Kilnsey via Grass Woods, Litton to Kettlewell loop to Arncliffe, Angle Tarn from Glenridding, Ferry from Glenridding to Howtown, walk back via th shore of Ullswater ... just realised, I could go on forever :D

And thank you, I really will pass on to the team.

My eye was suddenly taken by
a vision of beauty, sent down from on high,
she dressed in the colours of emeralds and stones,
far our of the reach of us wannabeknowns,

But just when I felt she was outside my sphere,
I heard that bychance I could covet her near,
My Illgotten gains were burning a hole,
and some blaggards offshore, somthin* precious had stole

A price was agreed and Selina was mine,
her personal silk, recovered…entwined
And now, my waistcoat, so vibrant and fair,
crafted by my own hand from her lost pubic hair
