Omicron

Don't want to give out duff info, nor join the anti-vaxxers, but am listening to 5 Live, Stephen Nolan. The scientist from South Africa who first reported the new strain is saying that the government measures here are a massive over-reaction. She's saying that although the new strain is very quick to spread, the symptoms are much, much milder than feared. She's saying though it looked bad in the lab, in her words "Having dealt with it now, I'm really not worried about it."

Interesting stuff. I'm still in favour of compulsory masks btw.

She's been saying that for over 2 weeks and in the meantime Governments have been cranking up the response regardless of the payload effect on people.

It's Megatron that you really need to be worried about. But luckily we've got Optimus Prime to protect us from him.

I’m all for masks and basic precautions but going over the top just feeds the conspiracists. I’m hoping it is the beginning of the end as been out and about there seems to be a lot of COVID fatigue. Even though masks are supposed to be a legal requirement now in shops, transport etc, while out at the weekend just doing random counts theres probably only 50% compliance.

If I wasn’t so cynical I’d say the latest clampdown was one final push to profit, I’ve been hearing more adverts on radio for PPE and testing lately. Even in WW2 profiteering was a crime.

Just looked it up and can listen here, from about 22.40.
Interesting stuff and may ease a few worried minds -

Still though, the rapid transmissibility is a major worry because even a very small percentage of a very large number could swamp the already overburdened hospitals, particularly with staff having to isolate.

Yikes. Be prepared to be canceled. On the other hand, Pfizer are saying everyone should get the booster as soon as possible, and that the vaccines protect against Omicron. Given few are getting severe illness it's a pretty safe bet.

And on the other hand... https://news.yahoo.com/most-reported-u-omicron-cases-182642515.html

If you get the feeling you're in some kind of terrible global level plot, then here's something to feed your conspiracy reflex.

It's a future planning exercise organised in 2017, and sponsored by Bill Gates (the man who invested $50 million in BioNTech in September 2019 - he's been obsessed with vaccine companies for a while and also invested in Novavax). In it they consider the effect of a global Corona virus pandemic. Among other things they look at the "Corovax" vaccine and the reluctance of many to accept the vaccines. And they come up with an anti-viral drug called "Kalocivir" (no not Remdesivir). In the future planning scenario the pandemic was due to happen in 2025 but I guess we got there early.

And note how the trial judge does not allow the mention of any of the famous celebrities that are involved. Maxwell's defence counsel has apparently brought them up occasionally. How they're going to keep her from spilling the beans I wouldn't like to guess. Can lightning strike twice? She's rather confident in the court so you have to wonder if she already knows the outcome. Maxwell's father was connected to several intelligence agencies so rumour is rife that the CIA is behind the entire process.

edited. Because I was rude.

It’s been mild in SA so far but it’s been mainly young fit people who‘ve caught it. Everywhere else are waiting for a full cross section of society to catch it so that full effects are known.

Perhaps I'm being overly cynical, but 24 hours ago all the headlines were about the end of the road for Johnson. Now suddenly he's playing at being Churchill and the headlines are about him saving the nation from some deadly threat. Shirley our glorious leader wouldn't over-inflate this into a national crisis purely to save his own rather overstretched skin...?
