Evening zzzz didn't know you were localish.
I agree the Coach House and Black Bull are very good and the Scorton Heifer (on the Green) is decent, but they're a good drive out and the Wensleydale Heifer is outstanding (best in Yorkshire as voted recently) but is well over 15 miles away, as is Black Lion at East Witton, as is CB Inn up in Arkengarthdale past Reeth.
Rustique and La Piazza are ok, but all the ethnic restaurants are awful (Thai, Indians and Chinese) There is real opportunity.
Not been to Elixir yet.
But it is the pubs that are absolutely shocking.
Golden Lion, Talbot, Unicorn, Bishop Blaize, Town Hall, Ship, Buck are all tired and ropey.
Castle Tavern serves a good pint, Turf is ok and Spoons is what it is.
Fleece, Black Lion and King's Head are really more eateries.
Holly Hill is a yomp away.
You can do a proper pub crawl here, but it's in dire need of three or four really good pubs.
They will come, as will better restaurants.
