Covid deniers and anti maskers

From what I've seen there's an obvious correlation with anti-maskers, covid deniers, far-right nut jobs and "brexiteers", and then from that, a smaller cult that is also thick and/ or racist.

People deny the above, but it's usually because they're in one or a few of those categories, but don't want to be associated with them all, so they bury their heads in the sand.

A few of the smarter guys I know who vote tory and Brexit are loaded and will be fine no matter what happens, yet on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are 10 people for every one of those who is a silly idiot, that has been completely misled.
Why can't far left folks be anti mask, covid denying, nut job discriminates?

Just out of curiosity?

No correlation whatsoever just people wishing to have a go at brexiteers in a bizarre fashion

Just a quick look on a gazette covid story... the covid deniers are all posting anti government anti/ anti preston comments which again doesn't fit the bizarre claims above

Marty if you want to believe I'm a covid denying, anti-mask, right wing brexit voter go for it but thanks for proving my point. Toodle-oo 😊
oh you may not be a covid denying loon, but you do like a good conspiracy.

If this was such an echo chamber, then people like you and cooper wouldn't be here, and it would be full of banter and arguments. It's far from an echo chamber, it's largely more educated than say COB or the evening gazette facebook page, but that doesn't mean it's exclusively left.

The trope that gets me is the oft quoted one "masks don't protect the wearer, cos science says" from people who plainly do not understand science.

Parroted by thickies of all political affiliations to be fair.

Ah some people I've met are anti mask but voted remain, so that proves it. There does appear that these beliefs are common among a certain type of RWNJ, though other nutjobs are available.
Lets be honest there has been a huge growth in RWNJs in the last decade, and they have been told that 'experts' and the 'left wing elite' are screwing them over. I mean that isn't the truth, but it's what they've come to accept as their perception of the world. If you are susceptible to that then you are susceptible to lots of untruths like covid denial and masks don't work etc.

I would think if you were in a room & gave 100 people the option to wear a mask or not, certain posters could tell you who voted remain, or leave

Well if you take the example of our own dear PM going round shaking hands with virus patients

Or in the US the Republicans refusing to wear masks, there does seem to be a broad right wing bias towards denial.

I only know 2 anti-vaxxers and both were keen UKippers-cum-Brexiteers.

One is a tragic case, really. Intelligent, hugely talented guy but isn't where he wanted to be at this stage of his life (mid-50s). His marriage went and he has just slid. I used to really admire his talent but last conversation I had with him about 18 months back, he'd gone full-on tin foil hat - flat earther, moon landings faked - proper David Icke territory.

Looked on his social media last week and there he was - talking about sheeple and Bill Gates' microscopic chips running around in our blood.

Eh?

But point well missed.
exactly, I'm in that centre, I'm not 'far' anything. I want a balanced society, but I see the overton window moving more and more right, and more more deprivation and poverty and fewer opportunity and fairness. Despite the right wing giving 10 years of austerity, you still see people who will never ever be in that world being manipulated against the left and having lies, misinformation, PR, rhetoric, xenophobia, and downright selfishness being weaponised to keep the right in power. And it's the real ugly side of the right, not even moderate right. Far too many people being manipulated by feelings, of fear and hate, rather than using intellect and logic and that will always drive extremism.

Brexit is gone and done and these people need another cause to fill the void left by brexit and supporting trump.

There’s a link between believing on conspiracies etc that once you believe in one you are susceptible to others - so everyone that gobbles up fake news and spurious websites it’s an easy transition to anything similar, and this fits the bill.
Learnt a new acronym the other week that describes these people, they are C.A.V.E.s. Citizens Against Virtually Everything.:)

I consider myself a lefty and i think wearing a mask is total b***ks. I still do it, mind. But its just ridiculous isnt it. Makes a few people feel better though i suppose. Optics.

I am also not in a rush to be vaccinated for a virus that is extremely unlikely to harm me, or my children. But i think if you are at risk and you want it, crack on.

For balance

I probably know him judging by folk on my timeline. I had one workmate telling me that hospitals were full of crisis actors whilst myself was in hospital.

Ah the stupid orthodoxy.

The elder brother of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has established himself as a fervent anti-lockdown campaigner and 'anti-vaxxer' who has described the Covid vaccine as a 'satanic death shot'.

But his role at the heart of a conspiracy-driven movement to protest outside hospitals and accuse them of fabricating the existence of Covid-19 has, until now, gone unreported.

Corbyn, 73, leads the Stop New Normal and #OurMovement groups, whose shared 'cause' is to rail against the 'Covid Con', against vaccines, lockdowns and face masks — all of which they believe are symbols of increasing totalitarian control by a 'New World Order'.

That night he had mobilised some of his 60,000 social media followers to join him after the St Thomas' protest at the London Eye, with similar events taking place in Manchester, Brighton and Kidderminster.

Ever the showman, he concluded the evening with a bout of fire-breathing — spitting out a flammable liquid which ignited to create a burst of flame and smoke.

There has been no let-up since. Last Saturday, a rally promoted by Stop New Normal, attracted hundreds of supporters in South-West London to protest against mayor Sadiq Khan's declaration of a 'major incident', as the spread of the new, more infectious strain of coronavirus threatened to overwhelm the capital's hospitals.

Blowing whistles and chanting 'Stand up' and 'Take your freedom back', they marched down Clapham High Street. Sixteen people were arrested.

Three days earlier, on January 6, I had attended another Stop New Normal demonstration in Parliament Square, surrounded by those convinced the virus is non-existent and who were there to protest against the 'scamdemic'.

They, too, chanted 'Freedom' and 'No to Fascism'.

Damn the right wing brexit loony Piers Corbyn and his 60,000 social media right wing brexit loony tunes!!

Or maybe its just loads of idiots with no political affiliation when it comes to Covid.

The only ones trying to insinuate there is are posters who have spent last few years talking down brexit/tories and anyone to do with it or them. There hasn't been many political posts for a few days so it seems its a change of tact.
