EU making a pigs breakfast of vaccination programme

The issue is down to the promised delivery date of the vaccine on the EU order and the AZ failure to honour it due to production problems, they feel AZ have reneged on a promise that vaccines would be supplied from all plants including those in Britain and not just based in Europe, if the boot was on the other foot then we'd be equally upset as the EU are, they invested in infrastructure to roll out the numbers promised that have been cut by 2/5's. It's a surprising commercial decision by AZ and until the fine print of the contract is revealed then we won't know the detail of what condition's the EU agreed in terms of supply.
If the boot was genuinely on the other foot though, the EU would be telling us it's tough luck and this is just another consequence of Brexit. They've fcked up and this is just a consequence of said fcuk up. We owe them nothing. Their issue is with AZ, it's nothing to do with us at all.

Astra zenica have issued a further rebuttal. From the guardian.

A spokesperson for AstraZeneca said: “Each supply chain was developed with input and investment from specific countries or international organisations based on the supply agreements, including our agreement with the European commission.

“As each supply chain has been set up to meet the needs of a specific agreement, the vaccine produced from any supply chain is dedicated to the relevant countries or regions and makes use of local manufacturing wherever possible.”

Do one Thatcher, this thread is for intellectuals only

Coopers right they would be numerous threads if the government had done this. Lucky it looks for once they got it right and the EU probably got it wrong.

That's all well and good but the organic cultures to make the vaccine are only produced in Belgium, so how does that fit in?

Edit: This is not true, it was originally the case before a new bioreactor was built in Oxford as part of the vaccine prep

I'm not sure I understand. As far as I'm aware the UK vaccines are grown in the UK and the EU ones are grown in the continent.

Germany have said they aren't going to give it to over 65s anyway so the whole thing seems pretty moot.

Not really. It looks like the EU have dropped the ball massively on this one. It doesn't mean that, overall, Brexit isn't a mistake.
I'm referring to the appalling behaviour of the EU leaders. They screwed up and now they are stamping their feet and "demanding" everyone dance to their tune like the tin pot dictators they all are. The mask has well and truly slipped to expose the real EU and people around the world are realising what a $hlt shower they actually are.

Everyone was up in arms when Trump was threatening 3M and telling them that they had supply all of their PPE to the US and not to supply any to the ROW. It seems the EU is full of Trump wannabes.

Good job we are shy of tinpot dictators. Just as an FYI Hungary are the only country with a dictator in charge. Unless you've redefined it as world leaders you don't like

Check your facts, Orban was actually democratically elected in 2018 and is up for re-election in 2022, unlike any of the EU Commission.

Ah you don’t know how dictators act. Ok fine, I’m glad we cleared that up
Yes, like this

Yes, like this

Like what? You’ve just linked to a post of one of your own unsubstantiated rants

Based on real analysis or just trying to undermine the UKs approach?

The shock development came as Germany's health ministry today recommended AZ's jab should only be given to under 65s.

In a statement it said: "There are currently insufficient data available to assess the vaccine efficacy from 65 years of age."
