Cracking delivery on him. Looks a good player. Would be perfect for us I wonder if they are willing to loan him out
Mike Doyle is his granddadTommy’s grandson!
He is Tommy Abel. Think you meant Mike Doyle who was part of CIty’s great team of the late 60s early 70’sTommy’s grandson!
Made me feel old when I started seeing press reports about Botham's grandson.Makes me feel old when I can say that I saw his grandad play. I suppose this will happen more often now in both football and cricket.
Mick Doyle was part of the only side who ever made me cry when City beat Boro 4-0 in the League Cup semi-final second leg
If I recall the Boro coach arrived very late for the match having been snarled up in traffic on the M62 and the team had to change on the bus. Didn’t warm up properly. We were caught with a sucker punch from a player called Ged Keegan who had replaced the injured Denis Tueart early on before we realised we were playing in a semi and from then on the night got worse. That was a really bad day. There were about 5 Boro players who had reached and passed their sell by dates. Although John Hickton scored in the first leg, his pace had gone. That goal was about the last he scored for Boro.
Willie Madden looked off the pace all night. Nobody knew that his knee injury was so bad. His career was over in 6 months.
Cooper and Murdoch looked terribly old and slow, and Platt was a bag of nerves. Peter Barnes tortured Craggs all evening.
It was brutal seeing a team for which we had such high hopes get massacred. It was pretty much the end of the Charlton era.
I'm not surprised you cried. I think there were many others crying too.
Yet in the first leg we completely outplayed them, woeful finishing letting us down. We should have put the tie to bed at Ayresome. That was a really bad day. Coincidentally Anthony Vickers Patreon article this week mentioned this. I didn’t recall it on the night but I’m sure you’re right. If I recall the Boro coach arrived very late for the match having been snarled up in traffic on the M62 and the team had to change on the bus. Yes that's why the over the hill, tired & weary players battered Man City in the 1st leg thenThat was a really bad day. There were about 5 Boro players who had reached and passed their sell by dates. ah, one of those 1-0 batterings that Jack Charlton specialised in then?Yes that's why the over the hill, tired & weary players battered Man City in the 1st leg then
The tie should have been over after the 1st leg
Bad preparation, caught up in traffic
Willie Maddren said in his book 'extra time' they had to get changed on the bus going to the ground
That's what lost us the cup tie nothing else,
I'm not denying they were all over the place, I've gave you the reason why they were all over the placeah, one of those 1-0 batterings that Jack Charlton specialised in then?
I'm sure the late arrival didn't help, but that Boro team was done and dusted by that match. If you can bear it, watch the highlights again. They were all over the place.
