The proof will be in the pudding next winter. Fair to say Root's role is safe until then I think, plus the 3 current openers (Burns/Sibley/Crawley) will all be in the squad and I doubt we'll experiment with anyone new this summer.still major issues with the openers though

Positives everywhere else, this is the only part of the team that struggled both innings. Can't be easy for those two mind you, inexperienced at Test level in general, inexperienced on those pitches in that climate too and generally very under prepared with cricket under their belt this year. I don't imagine they have faced new ball spin bowling at all before.
What a gorgeous setting for a cricket ground, by the way.
