Stoke City v Middlesbrough. Match Thread

Hes played 46 minutes of first team football in his career.

You have to start somewhere and I think we all agree NW is no mug, so he obviously sees something in him. Lets at least give him 60 mins

Look, what I am saying is he should be no where near these tight important games. He isn’t ready. I can see that with my own eyes.

Thought he did OK when he came on v Norwich. Cant really judge him on 2 minutes today surely? If he wasnt ready for at least cameo roles off the bench then NW wouldnt be using him.

So frustrating with our forwards.
Honestly couldn't sell you what Akpom was 'good at' yet.
Can anyone list his strengths on what they have seen so far?
Yes he's scored a goal or two in about 10 games or whatever but he looks about as good as Nmecha.
Did he really cost us £2.8m?
Feels like our luck is out and has been for years.
Keiffer Moore scored again today, as did Toney, 2 players we were linked with.

Assambolonga looks more of a threat than Akpom, but Akpom works harder. Put em both together and you might have a player!

I thought he was poor against them too. Although he should of got the lad sent off. He clearly has pace. But I didn’t see the need to throw him on today, its not like there was loads of space in behind the game was all infront of Stoke so you have to be a good ball player and the times he’s been on the pitch in different games now he’s shown bad first touch and played the ball straight to the keeper.

I don’t disagree with Warnock on much but I do think it’s early for Folarin personally.

Nmecha's scored 11 in 13 for Anderlecht this season. We do seem to have this knack!

Your Mr. First Touch excels once again and he should be nowhere near set pieces!
Hilarious that people think I love Assombalonga on this thread. All I said is he is better than Akpom. That’s because he is. Doesn’t mean he’s very good. Of course he should be nowhere set pieces but Warnock has made a rod for his own back with giving him the captaincy so Britt pulls rank. I wanted Wing to hit it after winning the free kick.

Pound for Pound Britt is probably the worst centre forward I have ever seen play for us. The worst transfer move we have possibly ever made The term I would use to describe his performances in 95 % of the games he has played for us is - Going through the motions.
He isn’t better the Akpom - they are both about the same except one costs us around 6 times as much in fees and wages

Disagree. Assombalonga is poor but he looks more likely to score. We miss our best striker - Ashley Fletcher.

To say Britt was as bad as akpom today is pretty laughable in my opinion.
He cost us a goal by not clearing the ball and managed to fashion himself one chance in the whole match. Unfortunately that chance was on his own goal.
He did not hold the ball up once. He didn't get anywhere near the ball for any crosses. He didn't make any decent runs to be picked out by a through ball. I'm not sure where the idea he works hard comes from as the only effective pressing I saw from a centre forward was when Britt pressured their man to put it out for a throw.

I am not an Assombalonga fan, but his all round play is better. Akpom has recently been invisible or on this occasion costing us the game.

Hopefully he is either unsuited for one up top or struggling to adapt to the championship, but there's no way I'd start him ahead of Britt at this point in time.

I'd love for us to make a clever little signing like Nugent in January as we need someone up front. We lack both a Tomlin and a bamford, a Ramirez and a Nugent, a vossen or a kike even. Someone to play in the hole and someone to lead the line and even win a few headers.

Glad someone saw it as I did. Shane long for the nugent type signing? If he would drop down of course. Or someone of that type. Great post.
