Johnson takesover Brexit talks

Lord help us!
Either he wants to come over the hill bugle blowing and shouting I've got Brexit done

That’s a very good point. Seems odd he would put himself out there if negotiations are going to fail, so people can say he came in at the last minute and ****ed a deal up.
Given what we know about how he likes to take the glory and big himself up at any opportunity, hopefully this is a positive sign that a deal is coming.

I think you have this spot on
The only thing I’d add is the **** up will be something like

’I have instructed the EU that we will not be held to ransom by their unreasonable demands. The UK public spoke and we now have our control back and we will prosper without the shackles of European interference’
God bless America
errrrrrrr
I mean UK

yeah but he’s just another Trump, if he comes back and the UK is still in the EU he’ll claim it as a great deal and a victory for Britain!
Then he’ll get Gavin Williamson to tell the world how good the UK is.😀

In fairness (can’t believe I wrote that in relation to Johnson) its not unusual for the top 2 to get involved at the last minute.
I was involved in a tetchy negotiation last year and me and the FD could only get so far. In the end both CEOs had to get involved to get it over the line.
Key difference was both sides pretty much wanted to do a deal all the way through.

Johnson hasn’t taken over.

negotiations have paused between the two negotiating teams. They have both briefed their principles.

As 1finny points out. Perfectly normal procedure. This thread is suggesting he has come bowling in and taken over which isnt the case at all.

You could say Von der Leyen has done the same thing ofherwise

I thought you`d written "Johnson takes over Brit Talks" (?!).
Perhaps Marvin is negotiating an exit for Brit in January?o_O:)(y)

Always a chance of a deal with Barnier out of the frame, but concessions on fishing by the U.K. are still a no no.

Whatever deal may be struck at this late hour, or not whatever the case may be, our government have abandoned the business' the people that run them and the people that work in them. Unless you own fishing rights, of course. The paperwork next month to get food into NI is estimated at millions of pieces of paper every month. There is little or no guidance for business who have had to sort legislation out for themselves with little or no guidance from government. SME's don't have the resources generally to prepare and during covid that situation has been exacerbated.

On the main subject Johnson may be ready to capitulate on fishing so is taking over to make idiotic claims of saving the day. Cometh the hour cometh the man, so to speak.

I voted for this shambles and a ballot paper, much like the spoken word cannot be taken back.

He will capitulate over fishing and the EU will permit him to dress it up as something akin to a draw. He has no choice other than to do so or alternatively, send the UK into a huge and prolonged recession the like of which we have never seen. When the CBI are saying that they have no idea how to prepare for no deal and adding that the government have done virtually nothing to assist them to get ready, it is clear that the UK is in for one hell of an economic shock unless something is signed. Laughing was writing that as you posted. You are absolutely correct but I can at least say I didn’t vote for this, although even I hadn’t realised just how inept this government would be.

The ineptitude surprised everyone I think. I was expecting customs union and single market membership and out of the EU political machine. How wrong can you be. In fairness to me, or perhaps I was stupid! I never thought Johnson would ever be pm. I couldn't envisage a scenario where the uk would parrot the idiocy of the USA.

I said the same 3 months ago. Merkel and BJ were not going to leave this to the Civil Servants. It's in the bag, it was 3 months ago.
