In his 1st Ebor, scored after 3 minutes on his debut then carried off with an injuryPeter Davenport and Andy Payton. Big money, didn't deliver (although I think AP got crocked in his second game, so no blame!)

Of course you're right. Such a shame, he could've been a Boro legend (came from Hull I think)
He did come back but I cant remember him pulling up any trees after
Spot on colukaDavenport is right up there with the Boersma signing for me. They were 2 players I was really excited about signing for the Boro that, in reality, were hugely disappointing and never came anywhere near justifying their worth.
Still get goosebumps everytime I watch that game, one of my top AP FAC matches, still remember one of the 1st Boro fans I met outside was erimus11Brilliant! Thanks E74
I have always thought Hamiltons injury and the decision to let Laws go were the reasons we couldn't turn things round at the end of the season. They had both been such huge influences over the previous 2 years and were badly missed. Glover exit was a bit weird, something behind the scenes?
Wow, didn't know that. Would be good reason to get rid.Rumour at the time was that Rioch and Glover had a disagreement while training, so Glover punched Rioch's lights out. Glover used to brag that he was the hardest man in football.
Agreed I love bernie but he didn't accept davenport at all from the outsetHe was useless but he was somewhat handicapped by the fact that Bernie refused to ever pass to him.
much underrated player as a defensive midfielder he broke up play well and kept his passing simple, which is harder than it looks. He was better midfielder than centre back.Liked Glover. Thought he was a good player.
watch bernie's reaction to Davenport hereAgreed I love bernie but he didn't accept davenport at all from the outset

Yeah Glover likes to play the hard man on the field, not sure how he would have handled a battle with Roy Keane or Duncan Ferguson though.
I was so excited when we got both signing, record signings from Liverpool & Man Utd, what could possibly go wrongDavenport was the first player I was truly properly excited about since we signed Phil Boersma from Liverpool.
I was equally disappointed.
he put peter reid in his placeWow, didn't know that. Would be good reason to get rid.

Deano was one of the few players who seemed to maintain his popularity when returning to AP.
I think he'd have held his own. It can only have been a couple of matches, but I remember his encounters with Ian Baird as being epic battles: no quarter asked or given.
On the subject of dirty play, how on earth did we get away with that goal vs QPR?
I forget who said it, but I recall one of the players, years later, saying Davenport's arrival was the beginning of the end of the team spirit that got us there, not because he was big time charlie (which apparently he wasn't) but because he was just on much more money than the rest of them.
