You have a nation more polarised than it’s been for some time, so entrenched in their views it will take a lot to heal this rift. Throw in guns and it’s a very very toxic mix.

Speaking to friends in the us and they are really very fearful of what could happen next week.

I have to wonder how much of this is hyped up.. It's true that people have access to firearms here but (I haven't watched this video) but don't forget the USA is a large country.
I've seen demonstrations close to where I live as but nothing like this.
It's like the antifa protests, yes the are happening but it's not whole cities like some would have you believe.

Your first paragraph does it for me. It's easy to walk around spouting vacuous bollox, unchallenged. They'll see their own asres soon enough, idiots.

It reminds me of that quote by Mike Tyson before one of his fights when the interviewer said his opponent had a plan. Tyson looked straight back and replied, "Yeah, everyone's got a plan til they get punched in the face."
 
Hopefully they are. I really wonder what would happen if Trump loses and somehow decides to "enable" them in one of his twitter tirades.

Well personally I'm more concerned about what trump may do in the few weeks before January he loses .
I think it's fair to say that's there's a huge spilt in the nation , but we have to hope that , for the most part, common sense prevails.
As another poster said, the UK beginning to look like the USA mini-me in many ways

Obviously we can't travel as much due to Covid - but do you think all of this will have put people 'off' going to the USA?
 
Apart from some time in Chicago in the early.90's I've never had any anti-English vibes ,far from it. Chicago was very much based upon the troubles.
Again I will say, the United States is a very big country. Will things happen? Probably but it will not, at least I hope ,impact great parts of this country.
Plus, having attended university in Scotland I would agree that there was more anti English feeling there.
 
We might be a bit screwed here in the UK at the moment but something always pops up that highlights that our essential Britishness remains untouched.
