It's always the 'uncle' . I've met a few folk in York (when I lived there) who all claimed they followed Leeds and not York due to an 'Uncle'.Love the tenuous link to Man United there. Why not say that you just want to follow a big club who win trophies and don't want to go through the highs and lows with your local club? Each to their own I guess, but watching YOUR team win a trophy, get to a major European final, rather than the 'sitting in your arm chair, watching yet another title win' hundreds of miles away actually means something.

Tenuous? 'Uncles' aren't tenuous.I know it's petty and there are probably some decent glory supporters but when i find out they're -for example - a Man United fan from Hartlepool with only the most tenuous of links then it really put me off them as a person.
