Always thought it sounded like a character from a Bertie Wooster story.

Wait until you see what real corned beef looks like, the stuff we eat is horrific really - I read it came about as part of rationing and somehow stuckFray Bentos always makes me smile.
I know the brand was named after the town, but Fray Bentos as a pie was so deeply ingrained in my head before this, I can't help but think the town is named after the pie. Much like Melton Mowbray.
Web have corned beef just like this when we visit my brother in the US. We call that brisket in the UK, and it's lovely. With English mustard, it makes the best beef buns in the world.Wait until you see what real corned beef looks like, the stuff we eat is horrific really - I read it came about as part of rationing and somehow stuck

The meat is brisket (they have it there in the US but you can get brisket here too - I cook it on my smoker) but it's the method that makes it corned beef - salt / brine curing it to turn it pinkWeb have corned beef just like this when we visit my brother in the US. The canned stuff is just mashed up stuff probably from all the worst cuts imaginable
Yep. Also called bully beef. I bought a big piece of it to make bully beef and dumplings. Chucked it out as corned beef is disgusting. It's just salt beef, served in the east end of London by the Jewish immigants in bagels for many years.
I actually really like a corned beef (the British stuff) with cress between a couple of slices of heap white bread. Takes me back to school trip packed lunches.
Where the Mrs family came fromMuff in Donegal.
And yes they have a Muff Diving Club.
Excellent.
