Big Problems with Anti-Social Campers

Over the weekend there were stories of people leaving behind tents and masses of litter in the Lakes and Scotland - and volunteers being left heartbroken by the shear volumes of rubbish left around Thirlmere for instance.
Here is one site that has had to close down because the problem has got so far out of hand. Imagine that having to close down in peak summer holiday season when they were desperate for business having been shut all through lockdown.. and this is why.
Stonethwaite Campsite -
It pains us to say this but we made have the decision to close the campsite from Thursday, 20 August, for the next few weeks. Unfortunately, many of our campers have been unable to stick to our guidelines let alone Government guidelines, making stays far less enjoyable for our regular campers and ourselves.
Not only that, we are unable to keep up with the sheer amount of rubbish - including tents, gazebos, airbeds, chairs and even a mop - which not only makes the site look untidy but also adds a huge cost to ourselves to get rid of.
Idiot campers - Please take a long hard look at yourselves and learn to respect your fellow campers. Playing music until 4am when it is against our camp rules AND you have already been told to turn it off is not acceptable. Groups are limited to a maximum of six or two families by the government, so stop turning up in groups of 10+.
Regular campers - We are sorry we have come to this decision but hope you understand. The site has been busier than ever and while it has been good to see you again, we're sure you'll all enjoy it more when normal service has resumed and the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere of our campsite returns.
Until then, please stay safe, be kind and we’ll see you when the lockdown freedom frenzy is over.

It comes from festivals, it’s just accepted there and it absolutely boils my ****.
I agree - but it actually does not happen everywhere - you do not get it at Deer Shed for instance where people use the bins and are respectful.
I suppose we have to say we are not going to accept people behaving like this anymore because they are ruining the world for the rest of us.

Same thing is happening all over Devon & Cornwall. Unfortuneatley if you close the sites, they just pitch wherever they want, where there are no facilities.

Not only that but down here we are also seeing the annual news items of folk getting serious burns on their feet from still hot disposable BBQs that morons have seen fit to bury and leave behind on the beach!

I am normally quite laid back, but littering really makes my blood boil. I just cannot comprehend the mindset of these 'people'!

I think society in general is becoming less caring and incredibly selfish. This Coronavirus pandemic has highlighted things even more. Barely a day goes by now that when out and about you don’t witness an act of selfishness, whether through driving, conversation or just people watching. A woman was assaulted in Filey the other day. The reason for the assault was she had asked a family not to leave their litter on the beach!

More and more people are becoming too scared to challenge the selfish behaviours of others, the good samaritans are getting less and less and unfortunately those that think they can just do what they want, can, as they get away with it usually without consequence.

The problem is that societies freedoms we all take for granted should come with responsibility, They don’t though, as nobody but a few cops in the right place at the right time will step in. It will only get worse too in my opinion. I often wonder whether some families actually bother to teach good manners and responsible behaviour, if they do, they don’t often practice what they preach.

I was going to go to Maker camp site but I am waiting until the masses stop coming.

And it will only continue and probably get worse until those responsible are properly punished with fines of four or even five figures or the confiscating if their vehicles or even short prison terms. They don’t get punished now so why would they give a damn what decent people think?

I'd never really noticed how much litter was left by the road side until I started cycling around during the lock down. I live in a rural area and the amount of discarded cans, bottles, masks, McDonalds's wrappers etc is truly shocking. What is worse though, is Fly tipping. people dumping anything from bags of clothes to Fridge freezers. It's truly shocking and a reflection of the f*** it attitude that exists in this country.

For campsites they could have a bond - say £50 per day of stay to make it hurt - you get it refunded if your area was checked by a member of staff and verified clean when you left, if not it is forfeit.

How you do it for day visitorrs to festivals etc, I wouldn't have a clue.
That was my thinking. Mind you, they may take you to a clean area and say "look all fine".

Litter is a problem we all face, what happened on the campsite is happening every day across the country and it not only affects businesses. We're all affected by it.

There's a small group of people picking up litter in Billingham, it's amazing how many bags they can fill covering a small area.

Look at the litter left on the beaches recently after people escaped lockdown. There's a fair sized chunk of society not interested in what's good for the whole, but we've always known that.
