Trident missile test fails for second time in a row

I'm not massively bothered that the thing doesn't actually work as in reality, if we had already been nuked then sending a few back wouldn't help would it?

What I am bothered about is that I know that the thing doesn't actually work as it somewhat ruins it as a deterrent.

So under the tories, they just about crashed our economy, our border security is non existent, we have the highest taxes since the 2nd World War and our armed forces are a laughing stock.

On top of that everything else is crap, schools, health, transport, utilities, water, everything.
Basically.

Sounds a bit like brideshead revisited for me as I was on a certain submarine back in the 80s which also had failed firings. However, I will say this we really don’t need to do those strategic firings anymore as the firing process and launch mechanisms have changed so much over the years that simulations and perhaps partial testing will validate and certify the weapon systems.

For me the Florida/Cape Canaveral firings is just a PR move by the ministry that they’re still in the “nukem” business.

Good old Britain. Aircraft carriers that can’t sail and when they do don’t have many aircraft. Nuclear systems that don’t launch.

It wasn’t that long ago the Army were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan with kit not suitable. A few young lads lost their lives in dodgy snatch land rovers totally unsuitable for the risk.

A few lives maybe but think of the millions made by a Tory donor or two involved in the deal.

This is a bit like strangelove.
Been a while since I've seen that but I seem to recall the soviets built a doomsday weapon but then didn't tell anyone about it.

Here we have a deterrent that does not work and we have told everyone about it.

It doesn't matter in the slightest that our nuclear missiles don't work. What matters is that we have F***ing TOLD EVERYONE THIS.

They aren't intended to be used. They are a deterrent. It doesn't matter if they end up in an explosion as created by Donald and Davey stott.

At least I suppose if Putin/Donald does push the button you would have to be really really stupid to launch a nuclear deterrent that tends to land a few feet away from where it launched. I mean Wile. E. Coyote would even baulk at such reckless stupidity.

An expensive charade costing billions every year. May as well just pretend we have nuclear armed submarines and spend the money on getting publlc services that ppl actually need back to a decent standard

Without divulging secrets, why are yo7 not supposed it failed…

Are you suggesting an issue with the operational capability of the boat or the missile system it’s self?
Everything was ****ed when I was on there. I guess the old girl was just a bit tired 🤣

With reference to the test, and without going too technical, the missiles had just been put back on the boat after it had an extensive re-fit, so they required a test. The fact that it failed is massively embarrassing for the RN, but the whole reason for a test launch is to highlight potential issues and rectify them. We can all be assured that the issue will have been promptly fixed.

In all seriousness, it's a bloody good boat with a great crew. She's the lead V-boat in the class, and I'd trust her to do a job if the time ever comes.

I think the 'official' nuclear powers notify each other when such tests are scheduled to take place. They don't want anyone mistaking a test for the real thing.

What probably happened is the Americans successfully tested their kill switch which ensures that they can prevent the UK from launching missiles, unless the US wants them to.
