Tory govt clears Tory mayor

Whatever happened to their usual we can’t comment on an ongoing investigation stance they they trotted out over the post office and covid etc but

funny how they are more than happy to shout this from the rooftops when it benefits them.

Sooo......if Labour get in can they still ask the NAO to take a closer look, or is the whitewash report basically, "thats all folks!" 🤷🏻‍♂️💥

Completely pointless exercise.
Complete waste of time and more importantly more money.
Did anyone actually believe that they would come out and say corruption on a massive scale.
Not a chance, not yet anyway make take 30 years and a TV drama.
I think a lot of people are surprised at just how critical it is. For a whitewashing job, there are plenty of black and grey areas.

Indeed.
"Based on the information shared with the panel, we have found no evidence to support allegations of corruption or illegality. However, there are issues of governance and transparency that need to be addressed and a number of decisions taken by the bodies involved do not meet the standards expected when managing public funds. The panel have therefore concluded that the systems of governance and finance in place within TVCA [the Tees Valley Combined Authority] and STDC [the South Tees Development Corporation] at present do not include the expected sufficiency of transparency and oversight across the system to evidence value for money."
In inquiry speak, that's far from 'nothing to see here.' I don't think Houchen is out of the woods yet.
