Villa have competition for Rogers

If a broke club with no fans like Blackburn can afford to reject £18m for a player with less than 40 senior professional games under his belt, then we can afford to turn down less for a player who’s finally found his feet in our team and has represented England at various age levels.

Sunderland have the same model as us, they’re not selling Jack Clarke in this window they know it would be idiotic.
I'm not saying we should sell him. I'm saying that's the conundrum facing the club.

And is what Blackburn faced and Sunderland and every other club in the championship faces in these situations.

You have to trust Carrick, Scott etc to know what the tipping point is.

I hope we keep him and I personally wouldn't sell. But if we do, so be it, I don't think the club will take the decision lightly.

That is critical for me. If Carrick says yes then I am ok with it.

It's reported that 15m is the package price incl add-ons. So if the base is 13.5, Man City get 2.7m and we already paid 1.5m last summer so the net gain to Boro on Rogers would be 9.3m Now factor in the club will know by now we are likely to lose most of the money put into Hoppe 3m so the club will be well aware of that loss to come(v shortly) . Might mean we look at this at 6.8m available as investment

Dijksteel is surely needed as cover at right back
You would think so but he very rarely gets picked under Carrick, Ayling will be number one, Jones can play there, Rav and Mcnair if hes still here, ot just feels like he will never cement himself as permanent fixture in the team and may move on if the deals works for all parties.

Let’s be honest, he’s only started to look a proper player in the last month. And still only has 2 league goals all season.

It would be a big gamble from the club to turn down £15m for him now, in the hope he scores 20 goals next season and becomes a £25m player.

As said above, we’ll have to trust Carrick’s judgement on that.

Haven’t read the whole thread, so sorry if that has already been said but;
If you said in November that MR would be sold to the premier league for £15m in January you would have been told to give your head a shake. Middlesbrough Football Club is not able to turn down a near 950% profit in 6 months.

We're going to have to get used to this too. The transfer model of buy potential means that PL clubs will always be watching.

Hopefully, there is time for a potential goalscorer to come in. More money might help that.

Did we pay 3m for Hoppe or was it rising to 3m if things where met, we can always only ever go on what is reported and most will never really know how much we paid out, we have to be smart in our deals and as Carrick says we don't just sign players we look at there character.

Friend - £300k
Ayala - £500k

Clayton - £1.5m plus Butterfield I think

Winners and leaders with fantastic attitudes towards the sport and teammates.

We don't have to go crazy there is talent out there in abundance!

The lad at Blackburn is playing week in week out isn't he?

Rogers probably would have not started, if LL was not injured and Coburn was fully fit.

Are the Venkys still propping up Blackburn financially?

Is there anything to suggest we’re actually going to sell him?

I really can’t see it.

There were reports the fee could rise to 3m Euros.

My preference would be to sell Rogers for £12m to £15m and loan him back for the rest of the season.

Rogers stays motivated, we have a settled in player who is improving, we also have cash to enter the market for purchases and loans.

I can't see Villa playing Rogers in the Premier League this season.

There were reports the fee could rise to 3m Euros.

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of American forward Matthew Hoppe from Mallorca, the club announced Wednesday.

Hoppe arrives on a long-term contract for a fee believed to be in the region of $3.6m (£3M), potentially rising to $6.1m (£5m) with add-ons.

Mallorca wanted what they paid out for him 12 mth previously. 3.5m Euro

Not as bad as the money we paid for Gestede and others but one that just never worked out again can't fault Hoppe always tried hard and been up for loans to keep playing football so good attitude, just doesn't quite appear to have what it takes for the championship at the minute.
