Sunderland crowd

Their sense of delusion is staggering at times, let’s not forget they were in second division when they win the cup.
I’ve seen you say this numerous times and I don’t really get your point.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. That’s a bigger achievement surely. There’s lots of stuff to mock mackems about but that’s not one.

If we win the league cup this season won’t you count it?

my point is they look down on the second division all the time with disdain but forget this was the league they were in when they win that cup they weren’t equals with Leeds as they make out.

The crowd thing as inflated as it is, is all they have and how can they blank it over us as for all that time in the prem what did they apart from fight relegation every year as the turf that wouldn’t flush, they stink the place out year after year and when they did eventually fall they fell right through to league 1. A league we have only been in twice for 2 years in our entire history and once for financial reasons.

Why do think they think they are superior to us as in this century alone ( we are 24 years into it) we have

Won a major trophy
Qualified for Europe twice by league place and cup win
Played 25 games in Europe
Competed in numerous cup competitions as finalists and semi finalists domestically.

Oh and been in a major European cup final.

Ok it’s no papa johns pizza 🍕 but hey can’t have everything

I think the point being made is Sunderland since the 1950's (i.e. in living memory) have traditionally been a 2nd division club, with two stints in the 3rd division during that time too. In that time they've spent almost 40 seasons outside of the top flight, and the recent 9 year stint they had in the Premier League was spent stinking that out being a turd that wouldn't flush. Despite all that they still think they're on par with the Everton's and Aston Villa's of this world because of what they did 70, 80, 90 years ago.

The modern day mackem stands on the shoulders of giants and claims to be something they're not.

The cup win they had 50 years ago was the stuff of sporting glory and shouldn't be mocked, but everything else their fans claim their club to be, should be. They're a 2nd rate club, with 2nd rate fans that turn up when cheap tickets are on, but sod off home early as soon as it looks like they're on for a beating.

That’s exactly my point.

Ask yourself this would any boro fan swap our last 24 years for theirs???

There wouldn’t be a single fan that would.

100 % this ^^

I've supported Boro since 1979, what Boro did before that I have no emotional attachments to. Its interesting seeing people post about Charlton's Champions, the hallowed Anglo Scottish Cup win :ROFLMAO: , Camsell, Clough, Mannion, siting third in the first division in the 1913 and 1939 seasons until the Germans scuppered our championship efforts and the leagues were abandoned :ROFLMAO:, but really it has no meaning for me as a fan of Boro.

Never mind the last 24 years, I wouldn't swap Boro's history since 1979 until the present day for Sunderland's, or Newcastle's to be honest. The rollercoaster ride we've been on from those extreme lows of the mid-80's to the heights of those European nights and silverware at Cardiff, along with the calibre of player we've seen in that time, have made supporting Boro a privilege - yeah we all joke its a curse at times, but hand on heart its been far better than following no-mark clubs that do nothing year after year, decade after decade, or those who yearn to be something only their great grandfathers witnessed, or more recently those that are trying to buy themselves a trophy, any trophy, by spending obscene amounts of another countries money.

And since Carrick arrived, we've played some of the best football I ever seem my team play.

As Boro fans we don’t spend time belittling clubs who have a ground smaller than the Riverside, or attendance about 10 - 15k fewer either.

The Mackems only built SOL at 48k as they wanted to feel better about Newcastle. I seem to remember when SOL was built it was bigger than St James Park. Until Newcastle built that stand of course.

Sunderland can’t even fill their stadium with people actually buying tickets. It’s delusional to think a 40k crowd makes them massive.

It was actually their official policy from the then chairman that Sunderland would always have one more seat then than Newcastle.

How sad is that and this was from the chairman.

That actually sums up the mackem mentality down to a tee. They'd be delighted if they finished 15th in the 4th division as long as Newcastle finished 16th.

I'm actually glad we don't have a rivalry like theirs. Its a really sad existence when you actually take an objective look at it. The vitriol you see posted week after week on their football forums is all born out of the feeling of them being left behind by something they hate to the core of their being

If there are any mackems reading this, just support your own club and detach yourself from the one you hate. Besides, the traditional/historical NUFC you knew no longer exists, it died the moment it sold itself to the Arabs.

Quite subtle then.

That said, I’d love to win the league cup as a 2nd tier club. It would be a major achievement that should be acknowledged rather than derided.

But you’d need to be about 60 to even remember that success, which was their last.

Where their fans get their delusion of grandeur over Boro is mystifying. I’ve been watching Boro since 88 and we’ve had a much better time of it since then. Cup finals, a cup, Europe, European final, and far superior players. Mackems can’t seem to grasp that.

Insular doesn’t do it justice.

I think the RF lot would get more people joining in if they sang songs more people knew rather than some of the Euro dirge that only the 50 of them do
And stop singing that dirge “oh Carrick says”
A load of words shot together because they rhyme.
It doesn’t make sense and sounds s**t.
Leeds get vilified for singing marching on together 20 times a match, yet the south stand do the same every game. at least their song makes sense

Probably the only song that gets the whole ground singing though.
Forget the words, it's about the emotion it conveys.

Here it is from ready to go

I left school in 73, the year of their famous FA cup victory. The following season we won the league by 15 clear points (that's 7.5 games or 22 points now). Since then we've had a far better time overall.
