Our awful start to the season

We gave the rest of he pack almost a month start when we couldn’t buy a win but look at us now…

If we don't get promoted this season (I don't think we can make automatic, and if we make the playoffs, it's a 3 in 4 chance we don't go up), I really hope we don't go for so much change over the Summer.

"Complete change needed" leads to slow starts which have really cost us in recent years. I would be looking to bring in no more than 3 starters (sorry if that spoils your Summer Newy).

The counter argument is how can I expect a different result if we don't change? Well, we're changing regardless of whether we bring new players in. Our younger players are gaining experience and improving as a result, and the whole team continues to gel into a coherent unit.

Let's not go changing too many personnel for the sake of change.

I've seen nothing to suggest they would even consider it. These have all been buys with a long term strategy of developing and building a team. Some changes but not wholesale.

If we don't manage it this year, we'll be in such a strong position next season.

For me, the single biggest issue we face is how long we can keep Carrick for. I'd like to hope he'll want to see this project through.

For Carrick to get us into the play offs last season was brilliant. We then lost the bulk of our team and our best players ( Giles, Akpom, Archer and Ramsey ) we brought in lowish price " project " signings players who are raw but with potential.

He once again has us fighting towards the play offs and we are 90mins from a Wembley appearance. All while having 14 players out injured during some matches.

Amazing manager.

Numbers in depends on numbers out I think.

Paddy's contract is up, Hackney could be subject to some big money bids, Howson is another year older (not that he looks like he's slowing down).

Right back still looks a bit up in the air - will Smith be the same after a serious injury, can we make Ayling permanent, is Dijksteel rated/able to stay fit?

Whether we do it in January or summer, we need a number 9. If everyone in the squad currently (including loans) was to stay then you'd say we would only need to sign a striker. If the loans go back, Paddy leaves and Hackney is sold then we could be looking at 5/6

I'm pretty confident he will. He's certainly not the type to jump at the first job that's a step up available. He'll want the right job at the right time.

Of course that job might appear and it be too good to turn down, but I don't think there'll be many that'll turn his head at this point. Even if he was offered one, which is far from certain.

Luke Ayling on a free
Lewis O’Brien deal made permanent
A striker
Greenwood or another similar left sided player.

Summer transfer business - DONE.
Greenwood has had some major parts to play this season but what did we let watmore go for last year and he has 12 assists and 2 goals this season?

For me I link greenwood but wouldn't be looking to sign him, I think we may have similar alent available in Gilbert or another youngster's cartwright, mccabe.

I thought he actually looked quite lively yesterday, but as usual his finishing let him down

I don't think we would, there will be a natural balance and a need to refinance if we didn't go up, so would fully expect a Hackney sale for instance as each year we do not get promoted this will be needed but it will be about fine tuning, if in the championship next year both Smith and Aylinging would be adequate, obrien perm l, dijksteel, coulson and mcnair will probably move on, then we really need to look at CF's.

I also think teams will be looking at Mcgree if he finishes the season strong, smart business in the right areas is key, not forgetting how difficult every year is because if sheff u, Luton and Burnley come down they will lose very little players!

If we don't go up I really hope Carrick stays. But if a Palace or West Ham come in for him, would he turn them down?

Haven't West ham tied moyes down again and to be honest and not to discredit Carrick as I think he's great but nice football doesn't mean he deserves a premier league managers shot.

At the moment it's a collective approach, good management team, some good recruitment but we have achieved nothing, getting to a cup semi final is great, getting to the play offs is great but we haven't got to the Premier league or won a cup under him yet so IMO, I wouldn't be gambling on his services just yet.

We need to get to the prem and he needs to keep us there at least before he can be considered a Premier league manager for me but again just an opinion and I hope other clubs feel that way so they leave him where he is

On September 22nd we were bottom of the table with 2 points from 7 games. In the last 20 games we have got 37 points, almost 2 a game. If we’d started off like we are playing now we would be round about 50 points, somewhere need Leeds!

For me the biggest worry is holding onto Carrick. It would help greatly if we did get promoted and then there would seem little attraction for him to go to a lower half Premiership team. I don't think any of the big boys are likely to go for him just yet as he's not done enough save perhaps Man U because of his connection to the club and previous coaching role there. It's going to be hard to get promoted this year as automatic is out of reach and there's going to be some really strong opposition in the Play Offs (more so than last year). If we don't get promoted then I think next season would be our last opportunity under Carrick as I'm sure some Prem team would come sniffing.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Micheal Carrick sign a new contract soon. (y)

This 100 %, whatever happens as long as MC remains in charge then I expect because of the influx of players we have had at the start of this season for them to be grounded and ready to go the next.
