Second half performance

There were a few who had stinkers in the second half, namely Barlaser, Greenwood and Engel.

We aren’t going to win games if we are carrying players. Which is what we were today.

I felt for Carrick today having to look at that bench to try and change things. We desperately need some new signings and a few back fit.

Villa game is one I’m not fussed about now due to the state of the squad, all eyes on Chelsea.

I had to laugh when the guy in front of my said “why the fcuk is he bringing a new left back on?!” … he obviously hadn’t seen our bench

To be honest they weren't the only 3. Nobody played too well 2nd half
Bangura was the only one on the bench Carrick has used. Glad Gilbert got a run out, but if he's only getting a few minutes when games are won/lost if doesn't suggest he will be in the matchday 20 with a full squad available

I think Kav and Gilbert are currently league 1 or 2 at best.

He’s not used because he’s not good enough. Feels a strange signing so far. Can see a loan move for him towards end of window when we are stronger.

You are right they weren’t only ones but they stood out as real bad performers. Engel tried but was just poor on the day. Barlaser and Greenwood are not the type you want on the pitch when things aren’t going well. They go in to there shells and make mistakes.

The team played well first half. Easily the better team, but even approaching half time the momentum shifted.

The second half was extremely poor.
Rogers kept on trying and actually made things happen.
Defensively we were ripped apart. The defence was awful and got no cover from the midfield two.
We lack urgency in the final third and are far too casual in our goal attempts.

Carrick has been comprehensively out thought by Robbins three times at The Riverside since May.

They all bombed second half. Coventry look sharper and stronger. They seemed to sense Boro had gone flat and got the second at a perfect time for them.

Plenty around me thought there was a foul in the build up.

Aye, one guy behind me shouted "It's a bit late now Carrick". Yeah, because we really would have benefited from the experience of McCabe and Kavanagh in that situation. Should have brought them on as soon as the 2nd went in.

Only thing he could have done differently I suppose would have been to bring the woeful Greenwood off for Bangura but I doubt it would have made much of a difference to the result or performance.

They were all completely knackered
This.

The tanks were empty and there was no one on the bench. Greenwood was having a poor game but there was no one to take his place. If we had taken a couple of the good chances we created in the first half we might have been able to hang on. We didn't, we couldn't. Nothing to do with a Mark Robbins masterclass we were just knackered.

Can’t really criticise Carrick today for me.

We played a good first half certainly. But the tiredness excuse annoys me. No Boro supporter at half time would have said "great first half but I bet we'll be knackered from the 46th minute onwards, play poorly and get battered for most of the second half".

That was a representative starting 11 we put out today and we should have competed much better in the second half.

We should have definetly but once it went 1-2 I don’t think a single fan in the ground felt we were gonna come back. Normally you look to the bench and think oh maybe he could do something for us and get us back in it. But we couldn’t do that today, and it just felt like if there was more goals they were coming for Coventry.

Today was the day we really felt the losses of the players. Thankfully it’s January.

Actually I did. Even at half ten this morning I said it.

Just look up the road to Newcastle. They’re in a similar situation with loads of players missing. Not being able to rest players over Christmas has been terrible for the team. The same players have played loads of minutes in a short period of time. We desperately need players back.

I wrote the other day that Greenwood and Rogers shouldn’t play together. Neither offers anything tracking back, would have been tempted to play Bangura on the left side today. Easy with hindsight I know, but Robins noticed our weakness down that side too.

It was clear to see that there was a big element of fatigue amongst the players.

Barlaser and Greenwood looked exhausted.
